That's the way the pricey cupcake crumbles.

Crumbs Bake Shops has closed its high-end cupcake stores after its stock was delisted by Nasdaq and it defaulted on about $14.3 million in financing.

Shares of Crumbs were as high as $3.49 in early 2013, but collapsed to 11 cents on June 30, its final day of trading. Employees were notified of the shutdown on Monday, according to published reports. The company had 165 full-time and 655 part-time employees as of the end of last year.

It’s the U.S. Army’s 237th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than with food?

Admittedly, the military and gourmet chow don’t go hand in hand. Hard to imagine partygoers munching on MREs, hardtack and cream chipped beef on toast (known to some as “#$%@ on a shingle”).

Editor's note: After a long, hungry wait, New York City finally has its own cupcake ATM.

It all started when Candace Nelson, a judge on the Food Network's “Cupcake Wars,” had a late-night pregnancy craving for, yes, cupcakes. As the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes - one of the leading forces behind the haute cupcake craze - she should have had 24-hour access to all the vanillas, red velvets, milk chocolates she wanted, but it was not to be.

Sprinkles was already closed for the night, and Nelson’s craving went unsatisfied. The entrepreneur was inspired, and she turned her misfortune into a goldmine: a 24-hour Cupcake ATM.

A Valentine's Day proposal alone may sound sweet, but Philadelphia-area bakery Cupcakes Gourmet is laying on the sugar extra thick.

For $55,000, you can pop the question with an 8-carat diamond ring. The icing on the cake is the bling arrives perched atop a red velvet cupcake.

And hey, look on the bright side: If the person says no, at least you're left with a snack to eat your feelings with.
