Pssst! Got a sec to chat? We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.
Consider the weekly Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic. President Obama-"I got high." I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you!! Next he'll tell us he's had s*x with a girl......oh, wait.....
I wouldn't give a **** if any president smoked. Stressful job
Doesn't bother me either, although it was a long time ago.
Wow...just turned on the tv and saw the comedian Billy Connelly (who remembers him?). He looks terrible, completely grey, long hair, full beard and recently diagnosed with Parkinson's as well as being through prostate cancer. Still has his humor, though. I always enjoyed him.
Just saw him, too! Took a sec to recognize. I just have always adored his humor.
Always thought he had a cool look
So what you're saying is..............you wouldn't hit it?
Nope, not anymore, even if I've always *enjoyed* a good Scottish accent.
Ok. The girls are firmly in place and I still got moderated. Dagnabbit. Wassabi?
Once the Genie's out of the bottle, nothing's ever the same.......
I'm going to call them "Genies" now.
B-b-but they're not Genies, they're mine. [:-?
noun not a name, silly!
Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. I am challenged to find food that qualifies for the low/non fat diet I'm supposed to follow for the next month. Any suggestions? Not a fan of spinach or broccoli so they can be excluded. :-)
I ate crackers for dinner last night.
I like to take boneless chicken breast, grill is, then serve with teriyaki sauce over white rice. Easy, tasty, filling and low in fat.
Hi there! Crackers, mmmm! (lol) The ranting chef down there has an interesting recipe for turkey breast. Sounds low fat, too. Only 2 ingredients & a crockpot. Glad you're doing well!😃
I am partial to seafood - a good white-fleshed fish should be nice (say, red snapper or something), baked with lemon and perhaps, pepper - if your system is up for pepper yet.
Are you a fan of asparagus? You can even cook that in your nuker, with a little water and light seasonings drizzled in there. Oatmeal, the real stuff, is also a possibility, and the real stuff has levels of health that the instant can only pretend to have.
Sweet potatoes have a lot of potential. I'd bake or roast them (covered so they don't dry out and you aren't tempted to add butter to moisturize them).
How about a grapefruit (or orange) salad, with various greens and a little onion or scallion? Chop in some apples, too – I find that if I add enough interesting flavors into salads I don't need or even think about salad dressings. (Yes, I know there are low fat salad dressings, but those usually up the sugars and the really weird chemistry experiment ingredients.)
Glad you are doing well, and good luck on this!
Nice to see you thinking about future food so soon. Hope that means you're feeling better.
Some general food suggestions:
Lots of veggies, poultry, grilled fish, pasta, tomato-based sauces, vinaigrette dressings. Turkey products are much lower in fats than pork. Turkey sausage has less fat than pork sausage but it's usually spicier. It's great as a meatloaf or as an alternative to pork if you combine meats.
While cooking , keep in mind "low / non-fat" also means less moisture. Look for alternative ways to add moisture. Adding more veggies to your recipes is a great way to add moisture. Rice, pasta, bread crumbs & oatmeal are great add-ins for holding in moisture. Beans (navy, kidney, et al) are great low-fat sources of protein in any dish.
Hope this helps. Cheers to a speedy recovery!
Thanks!
A little something smooth for you on Thursday.....

Yeah, before it actually happened, I recognized: HAIRBALLS. Sigh.
(I stopped before watching the whole thing. Sorry.)
I lol's. Especially when another cat gets a facial.
Figured you'd like the cats one.
Way Kewl, and THANKS.
Good morning all, and I hope everyone is enjoying their week so far. Best wishes to Mary Shannon for a healthy and complete recovery with no complications.
As to television, it has to be "Law & Order SVU", but also "Justified", "The Americans" and "Mad Men" hands down.
Oh yeah, The Americans, forgot about that one. Yup, like that one, too! New series starts soon. 👏
Forgot about House of Cards – another good one. A little too familiar as it shows the real way politics get done in DC (aside from killing people)
Reporting in from my hospital bed. Surgery went well, I feel good and wish I could go home before tomorrow.
My favorite regular channel shows are The Amazing Race, Justified, Downton Abbey NCIS and others. Also like house of cards on netflix.
Hello! So glad your surgery is over & to hear you're feeling well! 😃 You'll be home before you know it. Hang in there!
Glad everything went well. I know you are complaining but you know you don't feel much like moving or anything. A little hospital pampering (if waking you up every 2 hours at night is pampering) before you go home will do you good. And when you get home, its going to be a few days before you'll feel like doing yoga. Make it into a mini-staycation.
GoodONya! Rest up and lean on those nice nurses while you can. You'll be out of there before you know it. :)
I know a few nurses I'd like to lean on.
Nurses know how to party – and it ain't no conga line folks. ;)
Good to hear! You'll get home soon enough... Maybe Eatocracy could do an article on how unhealthy hospital food can be, sometime...
I am Sooooo glad the Frontal Lobotomy was successful, Oh wait-the harvesting of human organs ? Get Well Soon,Ms.P. :))
*speedy recovery thoughts*
So happy to hear the good news! Rest up while you can.
HELLLO!!!!!! Anyone there?
If I'm anyone, I'm here. (lol) Ice dams are successfully beaten off roof! Now where did I leave my ☕️? No HBO for me, so, no True Detective for me, either. Good show?
Awesome show indeed!
New show?
Kind of, its been on the past 6 weeks.
Ah bummer. HBO isn't part of my movie pkg. Do you have any favorite shows on "regular" channels?
Walking Dead, and kind of loosing interest in The Blacklist.
Walking Dead F T W
I been watching me a lot of Dexter on Nelflizzle recently. Never got into it when it was on Showtime, good show, though
Man! I finally found someone who watches WD!!! I like that show, one of my faves. What about the Following or Haven? Another one of my faves is American Horror Story.
Jdizzle, I regret not watching Dexter, I've heard a lot of good things about that show.
Anyone watching HBO's True Detective?
I got sucked in pretty good. The tv was on in the background and when I looked at it I thought it was a detective movie and I was at the end of it. I caught it again the following week and paid close attention because I wanted to catch the ending of that movie and dang – it turns out to be a new series. A real good one. I'll put it up there with Walking Dead, Dexter, House of Cards...
Yay for snow! A whopping 2" (sorry AleeD) that's already gone. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
We're only a few days shy of setting a record here. Number of days this winter below zero approaching 60.
Does anyone here actually cook? ;)

Some of us in ways you could only dream about. ~_~ Others more traditionally.

Harold Ramis has died. [:'-( The world is a little less funny now.
He made Ghostbuster's for me. RIP
Why was my post moderated?
Because Mardi Gras starts NEXT week. Tuck the girls back in!
Did I miss something?
Alee's Over The Shoulder Boulder Holders broke and she tried to post a selfie. Naturally the modbots said "not today."
Too bad.
Damn wardrobe malfunction. Girls firmly back in place. Making things SFWN.
because you were chosen to be picked on today. all your posts will be moderated for the next 24 hours and maybe more.
whip it. whip it good.
CNN has announced the cancellation of Piers Morgan due to low ratings and his blatent bias. In related news, Satan has backordered new skis, a snowmobile and a truckload of fibreglass insulation.

She: I'm getting a registration alert on our 3D cad software. Did IT change something over the weekend?
IT: Just go ahead and go thru the registration process for that software and I'll be happy to help you with any questions you have.
She: So I should just accept all the defaults?"
....time, time ticking away ...
IT: I'll stop by in a bit.
In her head: yeah, that's what I figured. Igit.
Good morning and how was everyone's weekend?
Good morning! Wow, 10 am and I'm first in to the lounge. Coffee's on.
Last work day before tomorrow's surgery and my 23 hour hospital stay. That's right, I'm permitted 23 hours and not a minute more. Frankly, I'd rather go home right after but my doctor likes to keep people overnight. Then a few days off to recover and stay all over again.
So, if I'm not around for a few days, don't worry, I'm sure all will go fine and dandy. Enjoy your week!
Best of luck on tomorrow's surgery. I'm sure everything will come out all right. Oh wait ... ;) You know what I mean. (;
Positive thoughts to you for a speedy recovery. Remember, a nite in the hospital is worth it's weight in gold over an unexpected ambulance ride. ))))))hugs((((((
Thank you very much, nice lady!
Not sure why you're going under the knife, but hope all goes well.
Gall bladder removal. Thanks!!
Gonna keep it in a jar?
@Jdizzle, I had a kidney removed & they wouldn't let me keep it for a conversation piece. "But it's mine!" No luck. (lol)
You're in my prayers for a speedy recovery!
Thanks!
Good luck to you!
