Editor's Note: It's Friday, and it's been a long week - we could all probably use a drink. Here to help us is Greg Best, the mixologist and partner in Restaurant Eugene, Holeman & Finch Public House and H&F Bottle Shop in Atlanta. Visual aids provided by Mark Hill, the Director of Photography for Turner Broadcasting. This drink was conceived in an effort to be contrarian to the contrarians. It’s no secret that there are many affiliated to bar culture who can’t help but cringe when the word "vodka" is mentioned in their presence. I’ve never understood this, because it’s the first thing most drinking folks ask for. Sure, I understand that it’s not the most expressive or exciting spirit to play with, but let’s face it, it’s not going anywhere. Enter the Punch Wagon. Delightfully refreshing, bright and snappy, this is a perfect example of what I’d call a "gateway cocktail," or "trust-building drink." Using well-known ingredients in a playful recipe allows for the feel of a user-friendly cocktail experience without some of the more eccentric trappings that we drink geeks are prone to. Alcohol abuse is a pattern of drinking that results in harm to one’s health, interpersonal relationships, or ability to work. According to Gelder, Mayou & Geddes (2005) alcohol abuse is linked with suicide. They state the risk of suicide is high in older men who have a history of drinking, as well as those suffering from depression.
I was looking for tips on fighting, what a misleading title!
Under 'Eatocracy'? You are very lost and quite strange.
I'm a non-drinker. Now, with that said, I really like a snifter of Bailey's that's been nuked!
Then you're a drinker, Bud. Newsflash: Bailey's contains alcohol.
I don't see any reasons for anyone to be complaing here "whatsoever," it's either a you like it or you dont!! I would give the man some credit for coming up with something some of us have not heard of yet, and nothing is garbage as long as it was made with a creative mind. I put a red pickled thai pepper in mine to make a bit spicy and pretty haha... peace <3
Gather all the ingredients; throw them in the trash. Buy a bottle of bourbon.
...said the alcoholic.
Why so belligerent about what other people drink? Do you have a problem with alcohol?
Almost as gay as Twilight. All it needs are sprakles.
All this talk about vodka, makes me want to put a screwdriver in my fuzzy navel and see if anything interesting comes out of it.........
You'll only find lint.
When Marijuana gets legalized federally by Congress under the next President (who will be Libertarian), I expect CNN to post articles on the different strains and growing techniques for each strain of Marijuana, just like they give time out to the Alcoholics.
At least in California and most Western states, for every Alcohol User, there is a minimum of 1 Marijuana User. We are definitely on an even playing field. CNN, take note and you better start lining up your Marijuana Experts now.
There are more Marijuana Dispensaries in Los Angeles than any other business (Starbucks, McDonalds including), and gross receipts tally just as much or more than those if all receipts are accrued. There are 1700-1800 dispensaries now and more opening in Los Angeles County weekly. Heck, TWO just opened on my block within the last four months! TWO!
Add to the fact that I used to illegally deliver wholesale marijuana and I've never been to a dispensary and I know a crew of at least 100 people I used to work with who also delivered wholesale marijuana to people who sell out of their homes and are not dispensary affiliated. These are the smaller co-operatives the law intended for in the first place anyway. If you add up all Marijuana Sellers it is WAYYYY MORE than the 1700-1800 Dispensaries with 5-6 bud tenders each. Thats only about 8000-10000 of the Marijuana dealers. I personally know over 1200 from my days in the game. I estimate in the city of 6 million people that there are about 225000 Marijuana Dealers in total. We smoke a lot and the hierarchy is big.
Legalization will not be stopped. Good luck with that. I guarantee you their are more Marijuana Sellers in Los Angeles County than there are Police in the ENTIRE UNITED STATES. Go ahead, do some research on the topic.
Bleh. I am a fan of Apple Martini's, Lemon Drop Martinis and things of that nature. I've tried many drinks and never heard of this garbage nor would I waste my time or money or good alcohol on it, especially vodka.
My wife drinks Vodka...mixed with cranberry juice and a lime. They call it a Cape Cod. Simple, Tasty, Effective, and has that dash of bitterness from the lime. Oh so good.
VODKA – CRANBERRY – LIME ... SIMPLICITY WINS AGAIN.
I'd rather drink 30 budweisers than even waste time throwing up this nutmeg contraption. Why not just take a spoonfull of cinnamon and try downing that too? Prolly tastes the same as this drink.
Throw all your lemon drop girly carp in the trash and buy a bottle of bourbon. You'll be a lot happier.
I don't know why people are such complainers. This article is in the Eatocracy section on Sunday. It isn't about politics or bombings or who can marry who. It looks like a good cocktail that will be fairly easy to make, though I don't have any bitters hanging around, it's a good idea for the summer. This type of article is supposed to be interesting, yet not taxing on your brain. Somehow, there are people who still get in some sort of a huff over it. Kind of funny, lol.
Go away, you are the pissed off one.
It's because they're a bunch of idiot kids.
Bleh. Just let me drink my cold glass of vodka straight.
'Glass' of vodka? Whoa, someone has a substance abuse problem!
You take largely tasteless liquor and add sour and sweet, and way too much (icky) vermouth, and a dash of bitters: sounds like a vodka martini mixed with a gin and tonic. I'll give this one a miss.
Gordon's Gin and Ginger Ale on the rocks, love it!
I'd like to see the CLASSIC Singapore Sling, not the abbreviated version.
Ohhhhh, would you? I'm terribly sorry this doesn't meet your high standards. Wait....that was the point of the article.
Greg Best is one of the "best". Truly knows his stuff. I prefer a Pisco Punch... in moderation of course.
"without some of the more eccentric trappings that we drink geeks are prone to."
...if it requires more steps to make than a scotch % soda, it's eccentric.
...or a scotch & soda even. Apparently I need a drink...
Gin and tonic: the perfect drink.
You forgot the umbrella.
Fancy and delicious!
This ad is an implant designed to give influenced-boosts for the alcohol and liquor industry. It proved how the radio and media can get people flocking too club to spend money and get drunk. It tries to attack marijuana laws to get kids hooked on booze and cigarettes by continuing is decades-long product smear campaigns. Now a picture that say a thousand words like this ad....or a command.
Oh, Ho Hum.... again.... one too many bean sprouts, reefers or poly-sci classes.
Please, go put your tinfoil hat back on. Sometimes a drink recipe is just a drink recipe. What a maroon.
I'm sorry but we learned at school that alcohol is the reason for violence, pre-mature birth, brain damage, and addiction problems. Shame on the article writer for this kind of stuff. You might as well write one for cigarettes and drugs. =(
CNN would put up an article about the kitchen sink if they thought it would increase ratings. They're desperate.
And you'd be desperate enough to read it,since you are here reading this article.
TO: anony
Alcohol is probably the only reason you were conceived. And, school really doesn't teach you what you need to know in order to survive in this world. So, good luck. Enjoy your life- brought to you by alcohol products...
He's a MIXOLOGIST. This is the Eatocracy section. What do you want him to write about?
You missed church this morning, nerd.Do you even have your parents permission to be on this forum?
No, what you learned is that alcohol ABUSE causes those things. What you didn't learn is ...the difference.
This punch sounds kinda awesome, I am gonna try it at my next party
