Chefs with Issues is a platform for chefs and farmers we love, fired up for causes about which they're passionate. Virginia Willis, a graduate of L'Academie de Cuisine and Ecole de Cuisine LaVarenne, is the author of "Bon Appétit, Y’all" and "Basic to Brilliant, Y'all." As a chef and food writer, I rarely eat fast food. The quality is generally atrocious and much of it is radically unhealthy. The menu offerings are the polar opposite of local and seasonal. There are dire implications concerning worker’s rights and wages, as well as animal welfare and factory farms. It doesn’t matter where you are in the country, every interstate exit is identical with the same usual suspects offering the same sad sacks of chemically laced, artificially flavored fare, all swimming in high-fructose corn syrup. Cheap, fast food is at the core of what is wrong with our food system. Yet, there’s one thing that trumps my French-training and chef sensibilities; I love Chick-fil-A. My favorite sandwich is the classic fried chicken sandwich on the buttered bun. The steam from the slightly sweet, golden brown chicken condenses inside the foil-lined package and wilts the bread, just enough. I prefer plain, no lettuce, no tomato, just mayonnaise, and the perfect pop of sour pickle. I’ve always known that founder Truett Cathy was a religiously conservative Christian. I applaud the fact that he’s closed on Sundays and strong in his faith. The outlets are part of the local community, supporting the schools and sports teams. I admire the work of Chick-fil-A’s WinShape Foundation in regards to foster homes, scholarships and education, food donations for disaster relief, first responders and the military. Service, volunteering and giving back are at the heart of Chick-fil-A, qualities I aspire to, advocate and admire. I, too, am a Christian. I am also a lesbian. And while many religious conservatives think I am going to burn in hell and my existence is a crime against nature, I refuse to believe that God doesn’t love me because I am gay. I refuse to believe that God made a mistake. I refuse to believe that something is wrong with me and I need “conversion therapy.” I refuse to call those anti-same sex marriage groups "pro-family" because that doesn’t include my very real family, my love and my commitment to my partner. I also absolutely refuse to believe that if I choose to marry another woman that I am somehow harming the institution of marriage. Controversy erupted last summer with Chick-fil-A president and chief operating officer Dan Cathy's remarks about being against gay marriage, “guilty as charged.” It led to Mike Huckabee’s crusade, Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day and the subsequent boycott of Chick-fil-A by gay, lesbian and like-minded individuals, myself included. The Chick-fil-A website states that the corporate giving has been “mischaracterized.” Well, there’s nothing “mischaracterizing” about their – now former – funding of the ultra-conservative groups such as Family Research Council, Eagle Forum and Exodus International, all aggressively anti-homosexual. Just this week, gay rights organization Campus Pride issued a statement claiming that Chick-fil-A gave the organization's executive director, Shane Windmeyer, access to recent Chick-fil-A tax documents. After reviewing the company's 2011 and 2012 financials – which have not been released publicly – Windmeyer said Chick-fil-A no longer gives funds to “the most divisive anti-LGBT groups.” For a long time, I cast a blind eye towards Chick-fil-A's corporate giving and, through my patronage, contributed to the very religious conservative groups that abhor my existence. Ah, the power of a chicken sandwich. But, when it all came to a head last summer, I could no longer ignore it. I quit supporting Chick-fil-A and said farewell to my favorite beverage, the perfect thirst-quenching combination of a half-and-half tea. The truth is that Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day was not about freedom of speech. It was simply a thinly veiled protest against homosexuals, period. Those swarms of conservatives weren’t lining up around the block getting waffle fries and chicken sandwiches to protest such lofty ideals as upholding the constitution and protecting the First Amendment. I believe they were showing that they are united against same-sex marriage and against gays, in general. So, earlier this week I drew a shallow breath of relief when the news surfaced that Chick-fil-A wasn’t as aggressively homophobic and had quit funding the groups. The company website states, “Our intent is not to support political or social agendas.” The recent news may have influenced me subconsciously stopping and picking up a half-and-half tea just this very morning, the first I’ve had since summer. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but going forward, I’m honestly not certain what I will do - if I will continue my renewed patronage of Chick-fil-A or not. Truthfully, I now have a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth and sadly, my once perfect half-and half tea just doesn’t taste as sweet. There is something to be said for accepting Chick-fil-A's acknowledged mistakes and embracing their new policies. There was a boycott to create change... they have publicly agreed to the change that we were seeking so shouldn't we be good Christians too and forgive? Though I'm not a fan of any fast food, I support anyone willing to correct their mistakes so long as the stick to their new policies. Change is what we wanted, change is what we got; lets support their new position.
Why would you want to eat at chick-fil-a? Their food is average at best, and there are numerous better options available most everywhere. I'm a devout atheist and I have no interest in supporting the enemy, nor dealing with a place that is not open when I may want service.
Their food is average not better than other fast food they use religion and family values to attract customers but they are hypocritical 0 tolerance .
Whatever Chickfila's stand on gay rights is, I could really care less but I'll say this...never...Ever...NEVER in my life have I ever thought to myself...Man...I am totally jonesing for some Chickfila right now. It has literally never happened. Chickfila tastes like school lunches I had when I was a kid.
From Loving v. Virginia (1967) which overturned all existing laws banning inter-racial marriage: "Marriage is one of the basic civil rights of man." Marriage is a civil right + gender discrimination is illegal regarding civil rights = gays win all court cases.
i agree. the ban on same sex marriage will fall to the 14th amendment the same way the ban on interracial marriage did. good riddance
i agree. the 14th amendment will take down the ban on same-gender marriage. good riddance
So many uneducated idiots commenting on this story. If we boycotted every company that had an owner who did not believe or have a stand against gays, abortions, guns, etc etc etc, all business's would be boycotted. The company does not decline gay applicants or customers. All you haters need to go find a real issue to get a life about. Losers
Hey, how about the budget, jobs, etc.
" If we boycotted every company that had an owner who did not believe or have a stand against gays, abortions, guns, etc etc etc, all business's would be boycotted."
Umm, that's a pretty bold statement. So you're saying every company in the US has an owner that is against homosexuality? I think you're just an idiot who has horrible reasoning, because that's clearly not true.
Also, why the hell would homosexuals want to dine at a restaurant whose ownership made it clear they aren't welcome? Seems dumb to me as well. Just eat elsewhere, where the ownership isn't a bunch of redneck morons.
I think the point you are missing here is that, unlike others with personal views on homosexuality, Chick-fil-A chose to make its view public and actively support anti-gay causes. What business owners do in private may well be their private right, but to bring their personal beliefs out to the public means they need to be held accountable. I think the others you call ignorant on the issue may be smarter than you think.
Their fried chicken is too greasy to be edible. Who would want to eat there anyway?
True... I ate there twice and both times thought it was absolutely disgusting
I don't believe it is Biblical to hate your neighbor even if you disagree with their lifestyle, and I believe the law should protect people from such hatred. I believe it's a person's right if they want to pursue a homosexual relationship, but I don't believe it is Biblical. As a Christian who has same-sex attractions, I recognize that the Bible doesn't give me authority to do whatever I feel like doing in this and many other areas. I am personally very grateful to Exodus affiliates for pointing me to my current church where for the first time in my life I feel like I'm plugged into a community where I truly belong. I don't believe I could ever fill that very real need to be truly known and accepted through sexual contact with other guys. I realize my choice offends many, but all believers are commanded to deny themselves and pick up their cross daily to follow Christ. He never said it would be easy, but I believe he will make good on every one of his promises (we don't hope for what we already have, but we wait for it with patience – Romans 8). The righteous long for the day when this will be completed, and this hope is what drives our faith. Live life how you want, but please don't pretend like guys like me don't exist.
"The truth is that Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day was not about freedom of speech. It was simply a thinly veiled protest against homosexuals, period."
Wow, what an ignorant statement. You should really be ashamed of yourself for such a blanket generalization.
It's amazing how so-called "liberals" time and again show themselves to be some of the most intolerant people around.
Dan Cathy's hatred of gays hasn't lessened even a little bit. He's just being more cautious due to the bad publicity his company has received when its practices were dragged out into the sunlight, and will now filter money to the same groups as before, but much more carefully, through third parties.
That said, I think an excellent response from the gay community would be to turn Chik-Fil-A into the go-to gay destination across the country, and flood every location with overtly homosexual customers as often as possible. As noted int he article, lots of people go there out of gay hatred, and are going to be very uncomfortable sharing a dining area with their enemies.
If God is perfect, how could he make a mistake. I do not recall any writing that ever gave the Christian Church sole rule over marriage, it existed before the cult that split from Judaism became an accepted religion, marriage will exist log after Christianity is nothing more than a foul taste in the human memory.
No one decides for whom their heart blossoms.
I dislike and have disliked Chick-fil-A since the first time i entered a store, every one smells like burning oil.
For the record i am male, hetero-sexual and worship Athena, who has been around thousands of years before Christianity started out as a beginning cult.
I've never eaten at Chic Filet. There is a new one and its in Chicago where I live. I am against what they have funded and their policies that are not welcoming. I am gay. But, you know what, they have taken some actions and there is a dialogue...I'll get a sandwich. I am sure its good.... for the gay or the straight! If you really oppose having your $$ fund their profits, totally understandable. Sometimes I just need a good sandwich.
You can"REFUSE" until the cows come home but that has no bearing on what is true. Although, I do agree with your statement "I refuse to believe God made a mistake". The mistake, of course, would be yours.
Considering that a belief in God is nothing but a refusal to acknowledge a lack of evidence of his existence and a pure reliance of false hopes, I think you could do with a little bit of your own advice.
Yay!!!! You are the winner of the most closed minded dumbest comment of the day!!
Drew of course, not Jay
"that has no bearing on what is true" Exactly! I wish more Christians understood this. If we evolved from apes, it happened long before the burning bush and the three wise men. It didn't seem to matter when God talked to Moses that Moe had little fingers on his feet, and Jesus didn't mind it either. True stuff has always been true.
Discrimination is perfectly okay, as long as it's part of your religion. If you're not religious and discriminate, well then you're just wrong.
There isn't. A scientific reason to believe people are born gay either, but instead of pressing the medical industry to see the psychological/ hormonal or social reasons for interest in homosexual sex acts and feelings, large numbers of people ignore logic and press political buttons to enact special rights for people with illogical sex drives.
Until they change their position, I will not eat there. Just as I do not support the Boy Scouts. They are entitled to their opinion as I am entitled to mine.
I, as a Christian, am constantly appalled at the lack of knowledge many Christians display regarding their own faith. Or, at least at the lack of wisdom in applying that knowledge. Here's some reminders –
"The Greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. The second greatest is like it – love your neighbor as yourself" – Jesus
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged! For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. – Jesus, Again
Fellow Christians – leave the judgement and/or punishment to God! If you have something to say or share, share it in love. If you can't, you're just a "clanging cymbal or annoying gong", so shut up! (1 Corinthians 13:1).
However, If you CAN share out of love and respect –
My gay friends, listen -Christianity at it's very core, in it's pure form, says; if a person of faith shares "hey, are you aware of what the Bible says about the LGBT community?". or, maybe to a friend "hey, I'm concerned about your lifestyle", they are NOT doing it out of hate or disrespect or fear – they are doing it out of love (yes, hard to believe, and it sure doesn't look like love in most discourses).
Say you are a very health-conscious, diet conscious individual. Your friend, however, is an avid smoker. You love your friend, respect their talents and mind, but they also absolutely love smoking, and don't see anything wrong with it. Would you at some point care enough to say "Hey – are you aware of the latest studies on the effects of smoking?". or, "Hey – I'm concerned about your long-term health. I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you".
I you believe that being gay is against God's plans for humanity, then the above attitude should be the one that motivates you to speak. Driving someone further away from God by spewing hatred and wielding condemnation and judgement is NOT an effective form of evangelism. I believe the person who earns the right to share their views with another will have a much better chance of actually being heard.
i realized my rather ham-fisted armchair theological treatise above may be missing a few components, if you're not familiar with standard Christian theological stance.
You might ask "but WHY would a Christian compare me to a pack-a-day smoker?? I'm GAY, not a drug addict".
Mainline Christian denominations generally believe the bible contains the words of God, divinely inspired in their creation and protected through the ages.
The bible comes down pretty strictly against same-sex relations and relationships, and other sexual practices as well.
Most of the bibles lists of 'do's and don'ts' are based in promoting what is healthy for the well-being and perseverance of humanity. They weren't arbitrary or flippant, and were meant for good. Some were given for a specific time, place or people, and that fact is pretty clear by context. Others changed or were adjusted at the appearance of Jesus, because of his sacrifice on humanities behalf and our changed relationship with the Creator.
Sexual guidelines, however, were considered of the "long lasting" variety, and in fact, came with some fairly dire warnings about the deleterious effetcs on health and life for those who choose to ignore them.
Therefore, if you consider yourself a "Christian", and you believe the bible is God's word for living, then you have to figure out how to reconcile and act on these two things (among many others, of course) –
* Ignoring God's firm guidelines about sexual behavior may lead to your (or others') destruction
* Not loving your "neighbor as much as you love yourself" would be equally as wrong.
Therefore, the stance of saying you believe and follow God's teachings, but then say "I couldn't care less about what my neighbor does or what happens to him", is the height of hypocrisy.
Therefore, by definition, Christians are compelled by their faith and beliefs to speak.
It's just the way they're doing it that shames me, all to often.

Good word. Go natural. Reject degeneration and corruption. By the way. To all of the glc. LETS EAT AT CHICK FIL-a!
Number one oh heaaaah ohh yeaaahhhh. Ohh yeaaaaahh.
Come out of home depot and taste a good chicken sandwich! Yummi yummi. Go gop! Go conservative voices! Reject the liberal poison corrupted with hate and fights. They want to fight go to work instead to chick fila
no..closed to gays.
One last thing – I can't believe people really believe in "Heaven and Hell". Really?? Scared of the red-skinned guy with the pointy tail?? Want to play violin by the right hand of the old white guy for eternity?? Sooooooo ridiculous!!
I didn't realize that God was white or that satan was red and had a tail.
Perhaps you should turn off your T.V. and read the Bible a little more as this may prevent you from appearing so foolish.
The foolish ones are people who believe in fairy tales.
Which bible? There are so many versions and rewrites to choose from... never understood why it's called the good book if it has to go thru so many versions. I found that 11 years of studying many versions, the people who know it best read it as a collection of short moral stories rather than a history book. And those who know it least use it simply as a handbook.
I actually ate at Chick-Fil-A on the appreciation day, and not out of homophobia. I'm not even conservative. I'm a libertarian who supports gay marriage, polygamy, prostitution, you name it.
What drove me to show support for Chick-Fil-A was the chain's persecution by authorities in Chicago and Boston who promised to not allow the chain to open shop there, all because the CEO has an opinion that they don't agree with. We can't have the government chasing people out of town for their beliefs. That's wrong no matter what those beliefs are.
So for me it's a "I don't agree with you, but I will defend your right to say it" thing. I wish more people held to that principle.
Virginia, I share your ambivalence. I suspect that Campus Pride was duped. If Chick-fil-A no longer gives to anti-gay groups through its charities, then the Cathy family almost certainly contributes personally to those same groups. Ultimately, if the Cathy family contributes funds directly and personally rather than through the corporation, we're still funding groups opposed to our rights by paying to eat at Chick-fil-A.
the only thing this 'boycott' succeeded in was making Chick-fi-La even more popular than it was before. congratulations, gay people
You nailed it. I'm Vegan – never heard of Chick-a fill, and this "protest" branded the name.
So, you eat there now?
The problem with Virginia's article is that for someone who calls herself a Christian she is making all of the calls. She says that she can't believe that God would make a mistake by making her gay. Has she for once thought that maybe she isn't gay and it is her that is making the mistake. She doesn't think that God will punish her for her gay deeds. God is God and His Word and His mind do not change. Just read Romans 1:26-28 for yourself. One thing that Virginia got right was that God does love her, but God is also just and that means that He will punish sins, and God hates sin. If you ask me how I know, it is all in the Bible, just waiting to be read. But if people refuse to read it how can they know the truth for themselves, if they haven't studied it how do they know if it is right or wrong? I suggest people read the Bible and stop spreading falsehoods. Just because Virginia doesn't think God will punish her doesn't mean that He won't. Who would you rather trust Virginia or God? I choose God.
Be quiet, woman. I am a man, therefore you should not speak and even claim authority. Men are speaking. Assume your role as beneath me. God commands it according to Timothy 2:11.
You choose that God? Really?
Obviously you don't know your Bible, we are not in church. And anyway, as a Christian I have the authority to stand up to any unbeliever. Which is also in the Bible that you know nothing about.
That's priceless. You still defend it!... at least here. Sue, if you speak in church, or commit a whole host of other prohibitions, you are a hypocrite. "If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless." James 1:26
I don't want you to go to hell, Sue; truly I don't. But you and 99% of Christians are heading there, because 99% of you are hypocrites.
Don't even bother. Picking and choosing Biblical sound bites out of their context is a front line defense for many in the gay community. I imagine on some level it helps them rationalize their behavior. Actually, seeing that Jesus said " Judge not lest you be judged," I guess I should not be pointing out any immoral behavior. See how this works?
Drew, the difference is that I don't consider the bible perfect on a religious level, supposedly Christians do. I quote it to demonstrate the inherent flawed nature in the belief system. And that's a great quote as well- perhaps more of your people should abide by that, and stop using soundbites of their own to rationalize oppressing gays in the civil sphere. Thanks for the vote of confidence!
You be quiet, man. respect the lady , you just write as a hater. Or should i say, womanman?manwoman? Halfman? Should we change that name also?
I love you too, even though I'm not totally sure what you're saying. I love Sue as well, I'm just challenging her to take into account everything that she is signing onto.
Allen... YES. YES, YES, YES. It's a matter of people being hypocritical, absoLUTELY. You've hit the nail on the head. I'm gay, and NOT a Christian. But I pass no judgement on Christians. I pass judgement on those who profess their undying devotion to Jesus, but then go against his teachings and judge others. I believe that to quote G_D is self righteous and arrogant. Jesus taught to love everyone. So why are Christians so selective in that? Hypocrites. "Judge not lest ye be judged." And the throwing stones/glass houses thing. SERIOUSLY, people? Get off your self righteous hypocritical high horse. NOT your job to judge. YOUR job is to love and accept. Just like it's mine. It's EVERYONE'S job. Just love. Really. It's that simple.
Allen, do you not know that Christians sin just like other people? Christians are not perfect and real Christians don't claim to be. It is people like you who love to throw the word hypocrite around (because it makes you feel superior in some way). I never claimed to be sinless and being sinless is not what I am basing my Christianity on. Christianity is an accepting that you are not good enough for God and that Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for my sins. Accepting that makes me a Christian. I will never be perfect or sinless this side of Heaven, but I do my best to do as God would have me do.
You clearly don't try your best. Case and point, I'm sure you knew about the prohibition of speaking in church, yet you do it anyway. You are a habitual sinner. In fact, Heb 10:26-27 "If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God." (Also see John 2:3-7)
You throw around the bible as if you're claiming to be a warrior for Christ...yet you talk a big religious game, yet you have deceit in your and actions. That's what makes you a hypocrite. It doesn't make me feel superior, in fact I know that I'm not inherently better. I just don't claim to be working the will of a God that I'm actually willfully disobeying. God is not pleased with those people at all. That's the difference between you and me. Dare I say, according to the bible, you're not even a real christian. I guess that one more thing we have in common.
Anyways, Sue, I'm going to bed. Think about what you are doing if you continue down this path of hypocrisy combined with your (purported) adherence to the bible. You seem like a well meaning soul...Its much easier to see god in everyone and everything than it is to deny its existence in certain people. I'm sure you know gays that on a personal level you love. Do you think God would make them so likable if he wanted you to hate them?
@ Sue
"but I do my best to do as God would have me do." Do your really read what you're writing???? You not only admit that you sin but by the words you write you are a perpetual sinner. How is that doing your best? Please, stop and think about what you're really writing. You make yourself to be a fool.
Nice Allen...Sue...you just got owned!!!
Sue,
So, God "hates" and God wrote the Bible? Hmm, you really sound like a good Christian. Bet you think jews can't enter heaven...of course, that would mean, jesus and 12 apostles aren;t there either.
I never said Jews can't go to Heaven. Jesus is a Jew and I count on His blood for the forgiveness of sins. I have nothing against Jews – I think your just trying to start something.
They have a better, nicer version of heaven than you. Nah nah naaaaa nah nah.
"Has she for once thought that maybe she isn't gay and it is her that is making the mistake." Have you ever, for once, thought that you could wake up and choose to be attracted to the same gender? If you don't believe that you can wake up and choose to be attracted to the same gender, then why do you believe that gays can choose to wake up and be attracted to the same gender???
People do NOT choose to be gay; they are born that way. The reason why the author says that she doesn't believe that God could create a mistake is because gays are created (born) gay.
BTW, your Babble also states throughout that your god is entirely misogynistic, and women are always below men when it comes to all of life. Why, oh why, then, are you attracted to such a discriminative belief system???
What proof do you have that gays are born that way?
The proof is in the autopsies of the brains of gay people. What proof do YOU have of your sky fairy you call God? None.
Maria with the fade away 3 pointer ftw!
First, proof is obtained through research and observation, concepts which the scientific community, as well as people who actually use reason and logic, completely understand. Therefore, research has been performed and the results have concluded that people are born gay due to a combination of genetics and other factors. Being gay is a choice about as much as choosing to be left-handed. Please see the link provided below.
Second, please wake up tomorrow and try to become attracted to the same gender as your own. If you cannot, then that should be proof enough that someone cannot simply choose to be attracted to the same gender, being labeled gay.
http://www.redding.com/news/2008/jun/17/are-we-born-gay-science-suggests-yes/
Oh yeah the so called Scientific Community, sure enough. Today that is what they're saying, and tomorrow they say something else. They just can't keep up to an idea. A bunch of losers pretending to be geniuses.
I suppose that you do not condone progress, huh? That's how progress works, you imbecile.
At one time, we believed that the earth was flat. Now, we know that the earth is round. At one time, we thought that the earth was the center of the universe. However, now we know that the earth revolves around the sun and that the universe is far more vast than our puny solar system.
We also have a great understanding of human biology, and we've used these discoveries to develop life-saving surgical procedures and medicines. The reason why we constantly change what we know is because we are constantly making new discoveries and breakthroughs in science. According to your logic, however, progress does not include change.
This is why religion is an absolute poison to society. If you believe that we progressed to where we are today because we never changed what we know or understand, and if you believe that the unchanged 2,000-year-old Babble is a reliable source of knowledge, wisdom, and truth, then you're truly as delusional as I thought.
if your child is born with a genetic disorder, do you try to seek medical help for your child?
if your child is born gay, why not seek help too? it is, after all according to you, genetic- a genetic disorder as it goes against nature. unless it's nature's point to end reproduction. and then that would even go against evolution theories.
hmmm. something to think about.
i personally don't care who you love. but it is a choice every day who you love. whether it's a man waking up and deciding to love his wife, a mother waking up and deciding to love her child, a girl waking up and deciding to love herself, or a gay man waking up deciding to love his partner. We all choose who we love.
and when it comes down to it, everyone wants to be loved.
" We all choose who we love."
"Why must we love where the lightning strikes. And not where we choose ?" – Ted Sturgeon
To Proud Atheist: Carl Sagan, the brilliant astronomer and scientist was an agnostic. Someone asked him if he was an atheist. He said "No, you would have to know more than I do to be an atheist". Not many more know more than Carl Sagan about the time, space and the universe.
Classic Babel Fish Argument! Boom! Nailed it!
I have some other really good books- also written by men, not god- and though they're of more recent publishing, they have some pretty strong life lessons to teach too: The Cat in the Hat, that's a good one. Where The Wild Things Are, pretty good too. Anything by Mother Goose. That Lorax guy, he's pretty titties. Grimm's Fairy Tales is pretty serious reading, but also has some important things to teach us about a variety of subjects. You also might try One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish- that just slays me, and it's kind of timeless.
I bet Sue wears the hell out of mixed fabrics. She might even eat shellfish!
"She might even eat shellfish!" We already know she talks back to men. Do you think the man she belongs to knows she's saying all this stuff on the internets?
"Has she for once thought that maybe she isn't gay and it is her that is making the mistake. She doesn't think that God will punish her for her gay deeds."
That's just cracked. You are another one of those people who theorizes that gay people are just in it for the illicit thrills? It's not that they do "gay deeds," it's that they are gay whether or not they do the deeds. Jesus Christ died for nothing, I suppose? Cast the first stone, anyone?
Discrimination is not a person who runs a company giving a founded opinion about marriage. He has every right to his opinion and when he was asked in an interview was very valiant in standing by what he believes in knowing the backlash. From that, homosexuals who oppose his opinion then targeted his company. I am not sure how that is discrimination on his company's part. You can say what you want about Christianity and feel however you want, but his opinion shouldn't have changed your decision to eat at his restaurants since he stood by that from day one without saying being a Christian. The fight is not with Chik-Fil-A, so why waste time fighting against what they believe? Don't eat there...end of discussion. All other issues with same sex marriage has NOTHING to do with Chik-Fil-A and they are not going to suffer over YOUR opinion and decisions either.
If the bible, in total, is correct, a christian please defend your stance that 'traditional' marriage makes good public policy, while the following do not. If you do not defend the following, then you are admitting the fundamental moral and logical bankruptcy of your beliefs, since you are saying that an omnipotent and omniscient god is not always right. If the gays are going to hell because they don't have faith in, and follow the teachings of the bible, then so are you. You mock god worse than the gays, because you claim to working from gods will. God actually hates hypocrites.
Leviticus 25:44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.
Exodus 21:20 “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.
Genesis 19:33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I slept with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
36 So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.
Deuteronomy 22:28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and r@pes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.
Genesis 19:8 Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”
1 Timothy 2:11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.
34 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
Matthew 19: (Jesus Speaking) 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for $ ex ual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
1 Corinthians 7:10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.
Numbers 31: (Moses Speaking) 15 “Have you allowed all the women to live?” he asked them. 16 “They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the LORD in the Peor incident, so that a plague struck the LORD’s people. 17 Now ki11 all the boys. And ki11 every woman who has slept with a man, 18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.
2 Kings 6:27 The king replied, “If the LORD does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?” 28 Then he asked her, “What’s the matter?”
She answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give up your son so we may eat him today, and tomorrow we’ll eat my son.’ 29 So we cooked my son and ate him. The next day I said to her, ‘Give up your son so we may eat him,’ but she had hidden him.”
Allen, there are plenty of instances in the Bible that are of sinful acts. That does not mean that God approves of them. They are not meant to simply be taken out of context, but to be read fully. In doing so you will find that the sinful acts are mentioned to teach lessons about what not to do and to show that if you persist you will reap the circumstances.
Allen you kow the Bible. You read it and use parts of it out of context to LIE. What your excuse be when you meet your creator? Will you blame it on chick fil a
Nope. MY God is going to give me a big high five for being myself aka being a reflection of him, not being a hypocrite, not hating his other creations, and not using a book that has been changed dozens and dozens of time by fallible men to oppress others. We are going to hang out, maybe head down the the boardwalk and watch cute guys play volleyball on the beach, then head over to Jesus' place for some margaritas and a fun movie.
What about you? And the God that according to the bible hates a lot of what you do in your daily life, and has condemned you to hell for it?
@chick fil-a is the be...You wrote "You read it and use parts of it out of context to LIE" Thank you for pointing this fact out....Since this is what all organized religion do THEMSELVES.
How on Earth do you think that these scriptures can be taken out of context??? Please enlighten us as to how these scriptures are to be interpreted. Also, please give ONE of these scriptures IN context; we're waiting.
Furthermore, what if YOU'RE wrong, and when you pass away, you find yourself standing before Allah? He will label you as an infidel, and off you go to burn as well.
Before you choose to judge others' beliefs, perhaps you should educate yourself on ALL religions; not just the myth that suits you the best.
I am educated on other religions. Allah is the same God as God. The only difference is that one (fallible man as you call them) wrote the Koran after receiving visions from Gabriel.
There are other differences beyond that....like idk one says that jesus is the son of god, and the other doesnt. Get that nonsense outta here.
Yes, God and Allah are the same god. However, the Babble and the Krockan provide two entirely different plans of salvation. You have chosen the plan of salvation contained within the Babble; therefore, if you find yourself standing in front of Allah (God), and you have chosen the wrong plan of salvation from the tainted version of God's word, then you burn.
Even though God and Allah are the same god, He will still burn you if you've chosen the wrong plan of salvation. Therefore, if you chose not to become a Muslim, and you did not live your life according to the Krockan, then you will surely burn, as you are a Christian/infidel.
Questions?
I'm glad they protested the "gays", and not the satanists. I still get to eat at Chic Filet! Yea Me!!!
Allen, don't forget being able to stone one's enemies and family and children to death; I haven't stoned any of my foes yet, but I think that'd be epically righteous, like Pitt in Pulp Fiction.
that would be pretty sweet. Consider it noted, friend.
Really? No one in your family?
Everyone just take a minute and breathe. Go to Chick-Fil-A or don't. Believe in one thing or another, or nothing at all. There's no need to bash anyone else for what they think or believe. Just be confident in what you believe and walk away. Why fight? There's no point.
The Bible is a book. God did not right it Himself. Men did. Fallible men. Bible lovers who believe in every single word of the Bible are fools. But you all make for great entertainment!
You say that, but what doctrine or set of principles do YOU follow? Some OTHER principle created by Men? You act as if those words and that book hasn't had any positive or relative impact in everything that we do in this Country. All because you are looking at the other side of the coin. That would be like me having a problem with whatever doctrine other religions follow, just because I am not a part of them....
I'm spiritual. I don't folow any organized religion. My problem is with people who only believe certain parts of the Bible to be truth and ignore the rest that they don't like. My spiritual beliefs did begin at the roots of a Catholic upbringing. That never stopped me from questioning parts of the Bible that were hypocrisy. It just landed me in the principals office or in the chapel saying the rosary until the end of the day. My beliefs evolved. Yeah...that DOES happen.
Your Babble has NOT been good for civilized society; instead, it's been a poison to society. Gays do not have the right to marry as straight people do, all because a 2,000-year-old book says it. G. W. Bush was influenced by the Babble, and he said that God told him that going to war with Iraq was what He wanted him to do.
The Babble was responsible for The Crusades; The Inquisition; suppression of knowledge and science; the prosecution of Galileo, due to the fact that he was a threat to the Roman Catholic Church; the Pope visiting the most AIDS-stricken country in the world (Africa) and telling the people not to use condoms, because they're sinful; discrimination against gays and all other religious, or non-religious, beliefs; and the list goes on and on.
If the Babble was such an influence on our nation, then why did our founding father draft the Constitution as a completely secular document? The First Amendment states that people can believe in whatever they want, while the First Commandment states that there is only one god. In addition, it states that no religious test shall be required to hold a position of office.
Tell me how the hell the Babble has helped the human species to progress? Science has allowed humans to progress leaps and bounds; religion has only slowed us down.

I second that Nic. Very entertaining and sad all at the same time. It just goes to show what is wrong with the country when people don't respect others opinions and beliefs.
It is the word of God. Not some made up novel.
I care more about this>Chicken (100% natural whole breast filet, seasoning [salt, monosodium glutamate, sugar, spices, paprika], seasoned coater [enriched bleached flour {bleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid}, sugar, salt, monosodium glutamate, nonfat milk, leavening {baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate}, spice, soybean oil, color {paprika}], milk wash [water, whole powdered egg and nonfat milk solids], peanut oil [fully refined peanut oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness and dimethylpolysiloxane an anti-foaming agent added]), bun (enriched flour [wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate {Vitamin B1}, riboflavin {Vitamin B2}, folic acid], water, high fructose corn syrup, yeast, contains 2% or less of each of the following: liquid yeast, soybean oil, nonfat milk, salt, wheat gluten, soy flour, dough conditioners [may contain one or more of the following: mono- and diglycerides, calcium and sodium stearoyl lactylates, calcium peroxide], soy flour, amylase, yeast nutrients [monocalcium phosphate, calcium sulfate, ammonium sulfate], calcium propionate added to retard spoilage, soy lecithin, cornstarch, butter oil [soybean oil, palm kernel oil, soy lecithin, natural and artificial flavor, TBHQ and citric acid added as preservatives, and artificial color]), pickle (cucumbers, water, vinegar, salt, lactic acid, calcium chloride, alum, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate [preservatives], natural flavors, polysorbate 80, yellow 5, blue 1). <<<<<LOADS OF CRAP!
I had been passing by Chick-Fil-As between Denver and Columbine for 6 months and always wanted to go in, but religious guilt and the fear-of-G-d prevented me from patronising them. So I drove to St Louis to White Castle instead.
Ugh! Are we back to this AGAIN? This issue wasn't beaten to death the first time around? I don't care if you eat there or not. My local Chik-fil-A regularly has a line of vehicles at the drive-thru that wraps around the building, so I'm guessing they're not feeling too abandoned. And I'd be willing to bet there's a pretty healthy cross-section of humanity there as I live in a diverse area.
I do however, object to this opinion-writer trying to present their perception of people's motives as "truth." You can say you believe people weren't protesting the right to free speech, but to pretend to know it as truth or fact presumes way too much. A statement like that begs me to ask you to prove it. Bad form.
I'm with the author regarding the protesters' gay bashing motives. It's not that hard to read these hateful bigots.
Please do not tell me what my motives were. I saw at least two politicians/jurisdictions trying to use the heavy had of the government to influence a private business into changing a legal opinion: an illegal use of governmental power. That is why I made a point of support Chik-fil-A. As a customer, I find that the service is always reasonably efficient and friendly and competent, which I regret to say is no longer the norm with fast foot places.
Do you support gay marriage?
FundaMENTALists claim that being gay is an abomination, and that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, all because the Babble says it. Why do the fundaMENTALists believe this? Because the Babble says that the Babble's God's word.
The only reason why so many people across the world believe in the inequality of gays is due to the nonsensical book written 2,000 years ago by primitive desert dwellers. Wake up, people!
I'm awake!! I feel your pain and frustration my friend.
It's always good to know that we're not alone in this war against the real evil within this world (religion). It's also good to know that the rate of atheism is growing, while the rate of "believers" is dwindling away with the older generations of Babble thumpers.
Keep fighting for reason, logic, and truth! Eventually, religion will be defeated, and humanity can truly progress into the intelligent species that we are destined to become.
Funny you call yourself atheist yet you spend all this time and energy fighting against God
The fool says in his heart there is no God. Psalms 14
Not fighting against god, fighting against the crazies who believe in him and try to force that believe on everyone else.
We're not fighting against God; we're fighting against the belief of ALL gods. Furthermore, the true fool is the person who believes without proof or evidence, invests their entire lives into a faith-based belief system, believes in all of the nonsense contained within the Babble, and then turns around and laughs at the intellects who believe in scientific facts which are supported by an overwhelming amount of evidence.
Your Babble says that you shouldn't put your trust in man, because man is fallible. However, it was man who wrote the Babble, and it was man who determined which books to enter into and exclude from the Babble. With that said, why put so much faith in a man-written Babble?
A true fool is also one who believes that the Babble is God's word because the Babble says that it's God's word. Without proof or evidence that the Babble is true, then you have nothing but faith. Faith = gullibility, and religion's caught you hooked, lined, and sinkered.
Proud Atheist… You don't even realize just how stupid you sound. If we're not supposed to put our trust in a man, then why should anyone believe you or trust you, since you're nothing but a man telling us that? For us to do what you say, we'd first have to disbelieve you now wouldn't we? Therefore, you're only illustrating to us just how ignorant you are…
Secondly, a fool is whoever God says it is. And your personal opinion about to the contrary it is not going to change it. For the scriptures has clearly stated…
Psalm 14:1 – The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.
However, we can well understand why you feel that way because all fools reject wisdom…
Proverbs 24:7 – Wisdom is too high for a fool:
Well said.
...and why is it that so often the loudest voices decrying homosexuals and the like, are also so very often the ones caught with Thai rentboys, or try to get some anonymous head in an airport bathroom?
Atheists are you not suppose to be busy having lunch with your gay friends? You should leave this place and go join them, they're happily waiting for you, i mean in the bathroom back there.
I would choose to spend time with a gay man or woman any day of the week over a bigoted, discriminative fundaMENTAList. Some of the nicest people whom I've had the pleasure of meeting have been gays.
Until they start giving millions to pro-gay organizations to make for all the anti-gay harm they've done, I won't even consider spending any of my money there again.
haha they don't care that you will never eat their again, all the gays and lesbians got beat when they tried to protest people came out in masses haha and you were defeated :-D hell I would pay double just to cover your loss to the company, they stood up..you people cant handle. EAT MORE CHICKEN.
Go ahead and pay triple .... I don't eat there anymore either.
Self evolved? Go and change your body and metabolism and functions so you dont go kaka. You will be so perfectly self evolved then. In the mean time, if you can not, your self evolved being still will rot and in the following days still go poo poo. Deny that.
Selfevolved you give me millions. Stop begging. You give.
"So, earlier this week I drew a shallow breath of relief when the news surfaced that Chick-fil-A wasn’t as aggressively homophobic and had quit funding the groups."
I don't see how putting a stop to funding changes anything. The funding just gets diverted to another religious group and the funding that use to go to the other religious group gets diverted to the hate group.
In this argument, what is appalling is that there is no room for middle ground for people like myself. I went to CFA on CFA appreciation day and still do because I wanted a TASTY CHICKEN SANDWICH.
Nothing more, nothing less.
I couldn't care less about what anybody does or does not do in their bedroom, why does it have to be shoved down my throat? Just because you are Homo- or Hetero-sexual does NOT, in ANY way make you special.
If they were donating to organizations that were working to take your rights away you'd care. Open your heart brother/sister.
Dont cry Shirley. Go to Wendys. Support the chickies
By the time you find out that all that fast food grease has clogged your arteries it will be too late.
No, Never. Its run by christian right wing fanatics.
Go eat a berger at pierce .s morgan show instead. And do not bring any chicken. Yes. Ban the chicken in the usa!
Well, the author can think what she wants. I went to CFA on CFA Appreciation Day, and it wasn't a veiled protest against homosexuals. Here in Chicago, we had an alderman threatening to block the opening of a CFA restaurant in his ward because of the views of Mr. Cathy. If that isn't the exact opposite of what the 1st Amendment is about, I don't know what is. My visit was a statement of support for CFA against government-approved speech.
You can tell a lot about a group by what they fight for in the courts. While the religious right are fighting to control women's reproductive rights, or keep their pastors out of jail for illicit activity, or protect their worldly goods from taxes and lawsuits, the gays are fighting for family – so they can raise their kids as a couple in a stable home, and for marriage so they can live in a legally recognized monogamous relationship, and honor, so they can serve their country in the military.
The religious right insist on defining marriage by their genitals while the gays define it by their loving relationship. The religious right believe that marriage should be based on what you have between your legs rather than what you have in your heart. The religious right are morally bankrupt. It is the gays who are finally restoring a modicum of sacredness to the institution of marriage.
Yes Dorothy. Lets fight against the chicken! Fight fight fight! Save the family!
While I support the KKK's right to say what they want, and I support the neo-nazis right to say what they want, I would also support Chick-fil-a's right to say what they want. The fact that their message is evil, however, causes me not to support their institutions.
Become a mormon. Punish the chicken team. Defend the new england pats. Gt them in the home depot super bowl
Virginia, yes God doesn't make mistakes. He gave us free will to do whatever we want, you have chosen to live in sin as a Lesbian. You made the choice.Don't look down on Christianity because of what the Bible says about. It is a great sin in the eyes of God.An abomination.God destroyed a whole city because of it.You know it,I know it and every other Christian is aware.Get a life and don't try to get others to feel guilt for your way of life.
You and your god are repulsive. How dare you! You self-righteous, holier than thou hypocrite. You act like you are some sorta saint, and others are beneath you. If you're going to heaven, I'm more than happy to burn.
Remember.
The truth is that you are the pervert that is trying to define marriage by what you have between your legs rather than by what you have in your heart. Thank God the gays are restoring the sacredness of marriage that the morally bankrupt religious right have degraded over the past years.
Truth hurts doesn't it?
Oh, Phil, you're so incorrect. Unless you speak fluently ancient Greek & Hebrew & Aramaic, you don't really know what the Bible says. You only know what your translation says or what someone else told you it says. My advice: read the real thing just once before you go spouting off your perception of "truth".
Apparently you didn't get God's memo that says "thou shalt put a space after each period".
I highly doubt that God has any problem with gays......I am, however, fairly sure that he considers bigotry a sin.
It says in my Bible that he does.Faith in it ,you either have or you don't.It's that simple.
The Bible is a book. God did not right it Himself. Men did. Fallible men. Bible lovers who believe in every single word of the Bible are fools. But you all make for great entertainment!
If God wanted gay people, why in the world did he made a man and a women in the first place?
Before choosing sides you should know the facts. God plainly in many places in the Bible condemns homosexuality. Look homosexuality up in the concordance of a Bible and it will show you the passages where God tells you what He thinks. If you don't believe it that is fine – that is between you and God – by why not at least read it for yourself.
But how can you justify your opinion with all of the evidence of a biological link to same gender attraction? If biology plays a large role in who a person is attracted to, how can the Creator punish one for acting on his/her nature?
Phil is right. Jesus taught us to hate people who are different and justify it with saying they chose to be different. Phil must be right. He would have to be a complete fool to butthump his holy book for his whole life and still somehow miss the "love your neighbor" point so badly. Cheers Phil, I'm with you, lets get women's right to vote repealed too.
Good word phil.
Folks, read Phil's post. This is what hatred and bigotry looks like. He is probably a good guy, but religion has turned him into something that turns people and societies against each other. And just think, if he has children, he is brainwashing them to think the same way. Fortunately they will have the internet as children to seek answers to the questions they have about reality. They will have the opportunity to hear other points of view and make up their own mind.
YOU are the one who has chosen to live in sin for attacking another without just cause. When did Jesus ever say that homosexuality is a sin?
Also, do you eat shrimp? Have you ever had sex outside of marriage? If so YOU are the sinner under your own rules. Worry about the plank in your own eye.
One teensy weensy little question there, phil: what if the book's wrong? I mean, it's been just under two thousand years since the last of the story material happened- even longer if you're talking Old Testament! Isn't it even just the tiniest bit possible that somewhere along the way, what with all the monumental revisions and restructuring (not to mention massive cultural splits and wars) that the Bible has gone through, there's been a little bit of "message creep?" Isn't that somewhat possible? If the book is Truth with a capital "T", then by that rationale I shouldn't get into nearly the trouble I do with god-fearing Christian folk for raping slaves or stoning my enemies....

Xtians cherry pick their scriptures. You can throw these in their face all you want, and it will be returned with "I'm straight, and you're not...therefore you'll burn and I won't."
lol. You're a joke. You sound like a petulant child.
ed, my apologies. I misread your statement. Sorry, friend.
Thanks for your post Patrick. It is so clear to those who think rationally. The Christians have no reasonable or rational answer to those verses. I just sent a bunch of similar verses to a close relative who is Christian and so far she is speechless.
Yeah, they literally have no reply. This simply ignore them. It's the most pathetic act of mental cowardice I have ever seen. How are these people denying us our rights, on a book they cant even defend in total? Our time will come, and when it does, revenge will be swift and sweet.
Allen, the only reply that they've ever been able to come up with is "That's the OT; that's not the NT. The OT is superceded by the NT, because in the OT, there was no Jesus. Jesus changed everything in the NT, so the OT is irrelevant." What the imbeciles fail to realize is that Jesus IS God and God IS Jesus, so He was just as much God in the OT as He was in the NT.
It doesn't matter what you throw at a fundaMENTAList; they will always believe in their book of fairytales above all truth, proof, evidence, fact, logic, and reason. It's a sad state of affairs, because most Christians are good-hearted people who simply fell victim. These people were either indoctrinated into the dogma or they fell victim later in life.
exactly, if god doesnt change (which I have heard, and read numerous places here tonight), then hes the same spiteful child as in the OT.
I dunno about the rest of you guys, but all this biblical stuff has got me all kinds of fired up! Man I am just gonna go absolutely beat and rape the stuffing outta my slaves tonight, boy I tell you what!
Please don't read this and think about trying Chick-fil-a. Its no in-n-out or five guys. If the owners want to discuss their views and you don't agree with them, there is no need to try their soggy mcChicken sandwiches. Support better and more local based options.
While the writer is entitled to her own opinion, I resent it that she has the nerve to assume she knows why I supported "Chick Fil-a Day" last year... and she is wrong. It very much WAS about protecting the constitution, and protecting everyone's constitutional right to state their own opinion (including Cathy). And as I said at the beginning, even the writer has a right to state her own opinion (even when it's wrong).
Larry, don't you know that liberals are the most tolerant people that that walk this earth????
Larry, we all know you're lying. Stop trying to act like you're protecting the constitution, its all bs. Conservatives hate gays we all know it.
As a christian, I am entitled to support whatever causes/groups/individuals/businesses I choose; it's just the same rights that liberals have. If supporting Chick-Fil-A brands me as homophobic, then any protest of Chick-Fil-A should automatically brand that person as being "heterophobic". The problem comes when liberals decide that they are the only ones allowed or deserving to have any rights. Liberals believe they hold some unilateral privilege of calling everyone who disagrees with their views racist, sexist, or biased in some way. To liberals, tolerance is a one-way street; and only when it goes THEIR way. All I've ever asked from people is that they hold fast to their beliefs (whatever they are) and allow me to hold fast to mine.
The problem with this logic is that "heterophobes" aren't trying to restrict anyone's life. Liberals, as the word suggests, are about freeedom, including the right to live your life they way you want and not be denied legal benefits when your choice isn't "right."
While you are entitled to believe homosexuality is wrong, you should NOT be entitled to advocate to restrict the legal rights of anyone.
We all have groups or types of people we don't like, but most of us agree we should all have the same rights, as long as our choices don't harm others.
So it's not the same at all.
Please prove to me that people do not choose who they get pleasure from by having sex, hetero or homo? It is very much a choice because it is NOT genetic as has been proven. As in many of the same ways we pick up our environment growing up. Do you have any traits not genetic to your parents? Even if you do not "like" that trait? The homosexual community is the group claiming to be denied civil rights, race, and sex are genetic – sexual orientation is not.
As a liberal, I hold you accountable for your BELIEFS!!! As a conservative, you hold people accountable for things over which they have no control!!!!!!!!!!! There's a big difference!!!!!!
Then by all means tell us why people are heterosexual or homosexual.
How many people of your own sex did you sleep with before you "chose" to be heterosexual?
Oh shut UP.
You are so dumb if you think gays are "heterophobic." Why do you pull the victim card, YOU ARE NOT THE VICTIM. It is a sin that our country is denying civil rights to all of its tax paying citizens, largely in part because of religious bigots as yourself.
Shame on you, you're no better than the Muslims in the MIddle East who give no rights to their women and oppress religious minorities. GROW UP, the world doesn't revolve around you.
Dave. How protective of rights you show. You shut up
Maybe we should take away your right to vote....
I doubt that I will ever eat at a Chick-fil-A after they so blatantly showed their colors and stupidity. I'm glad they've decided to clean up their act but as far as I'm concerned, it's just window dressing... they haven't changed their values.
Sally, how liberal and tolerant of you .... NOT! Now run back to your femi-nazi Oprah girliefest, and recharge the batteries for your play toys.
And why don't you go crawl back into that cave you came out of and try to make fire but rubbing your legs together.
Actually, I didn't come out of a cave, nor did I evolve from an ape, or crawl out of a slimy swamp; Now whether or not your momma was a sasquatch, or your daddy was a tadpole, I can't say.
Perhaps you should consider changing YOUR values Sally – You apparently preach acceptance & tolerance, and yet you persecute a man & his extremely well-run business just because his opinion is that marriage should be defined as his religion teaches... that sure doesn't sound very tolerant or accepting on your part, now does it?
Maybe because your religion doesn't sound so tolerant, and maybe because your religion is directly denying civil rights to American citizens
I don't know if you hillbillies in the Bible Belt know about something called the Constitution- maybe you've heard of it, the one that gives you the right to your rifle collection? Yeah, that same document also states that there shall be a separation of church and state, and that ALL Americans are equal under the law. YOUR religion does not rule this country, get your head out of your ass and stop spewing hatred.
I left "Christianity" because of its moronic believers (as the bigots here). I don't need such a terrible institution to constitute my relationship with God.
Dave, if you want to see what a bigot looks like, go find a mirror. Your anti-Christian, anti-conservative, anti-southern rant is one of the most bigoted things posted on this board. Your parents must be proud.
Larry, we could care less what your religious views are or your opinions for that matter. It is when you decide that your religious opinions should control the lives of how others live that there is a problem. This country is NOT a therocracy it is a secular nation. All have the right to choose as they believe but they do not reserve the right to enforce their beliefs on others through legislature. Freedom of religion also means freedom FROM religion. Therefore to say you believe marriage is one man one woman thats fine, but you can not make that a law as it is discrimination and will not hold up in a secular constitution under the 14th amendment.
GOOD WORD. ARE DAVE AND SALLY HUSBAND AND WIFE
GO VEGAN AND DONT TANTRUM. GO MARCH ON A STREET OR A HOME DEPOT OR SOMETHING. SALLY MEETS DAVE
How mature of you.
It's a miracle you figured out how to turn on a computer and find your way to this site.
Not Quite Larry..
As usual Religious Conservatives are incapable of intellectual honesty and have the chutzpah to claim they are the victims!
Your position is that you should be free to suppress the rights of millions of people to the same pursuit of happiness that you possess and that instead their relationships should never have the same legal and moral standing in society because you said so..
Moreover, people like you don't take this position because of any objective reasoning or critical thinking. Instead invariably folks like you try and mask your own horrible bigotry and prejudice with cherry-picked religious quotes while of course conveniently denying any contradictions or in fact any source that doesn't jibe with your confirmation bias.
On the other hand, same-sex marriage proponents are not asking for a single piece of legislation that changes your rights.. they are not demanding special privileges or rights.. just the same kind of equal protection that you enjoy under this constitution.
Truly, positions like yours make me want to vomit not just because of your intellectual laziness and bigotry.. but because you could not care less that unlike same-sex marriage proponents, when you put your bigotry into the legislative process, there is not just some paranoid, nonsensical claim that you are harming society..
Instead.. In your case, the harm is already here. It happens everyday and is easily observed and measured by looking at various social barometers such as ease of housing, employment etc (not to mention suicide and self-harm) which ignorant folk.
The good news is.. the anti same-sex marriage protestors are going the same way of those that protested the rights of slaveowners, against womens suffrage and for racial segregation. Funny how those same people thought giving those people rights was going to destroy society as well.. Food for thought, if you are capable of doing so independently..
Go eat with the dalai burger
So stupid.... Go eat somewhere else if you don't agree with chic-fil-a. Trust me, they could care less if you gays want to take your business elsewhere. NO ONE CARES
I agree. People prefer to eat at a gay free establishment. Who knows where those gay hands have been
Joe. You must be one of those closeted gays I hear so much about. Did you even read the headline?
Our country will not get any better until you people get yourselves together.
By your people I mean the bigots who think Christianity is the law of the land. We are no better than the Muslims we talk so bad about in the MIddle East. In fact, we are worse BECAUSE we talk bad about them not giving rights to their women, but look at us....
IKR people need to quit being such cry babies
Oh Dave now you are demeaning the muslims?
Nah, I'm trying to make an example that you can relate to. If you discriminate against gays, you probably discriminate against every other non-Christian.
Way to change the topic though. I don't know who you're fooling.
Dave is a muslim hater also
The author overtly misquoted Mr.Cathey on same s*x marriage. He never spoke out against "g*y marriage" (more appropriately referred to as same s*x marriage) last year. He said he supported traditional marriage and was guilty as charged. For instance if I said I am proud to be a US citizen and i am guilty as charged it does not mean I am guilty of being against other countries.
You are not that naive. Supporting "traditional marriage" MEANS preserving the term "marriage" for traditional" pairings, hence not accepting SSM–which is surely his right, but don't try to distort his intent.
Yes, you can eat at chick fillet, on Sunday!
Which one? I've only ever eaten there once - ignoring their previous support of hate-mongering, not being open on Sunday is just f-ing stupid. Deciding your hours based on a zombie cult's "special day" is ridiculous.
"The truth is that Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day was not about freedom of speech.
As a participant in the CFA appreciation day, I can say as a fact that I have no problem with people who have intercourse or are attracted to people of the same s*x. I support CFa becasue they are the only fast food restaurant that I will eat at. They hire and serve people who define themselves as "g*y" They are very clean very customer service oriented – refreshingly so. They do so many good works it is unbelievable and they support traditional family values which I feel very strongly are important to the success of our society. I believed that their support of traditional marriage and family values was being twisted and stretched to be anti g*y. There were claims that they were anti g*y because of exodus group and that group only has counseling to 'pray the gay away' for people who WANT to. If an organization gives counseling for people who want it, I really don't have an issue with it being "anit g*y" because that person has to request those services for themselves.
Are you Ronald mcdonald?
what's the special sauce on a Big Mac?
You don't want to know!
Thousand Island dressing.
Oh come on, next you're going to tell me the Easter Bunny doesn't exist.
I'll ignore the ignorant haters and just say that a leopard doesn't change its spots. If you want to give money to folks that will turn around and use it to oppress you, that's your right, I guess. Pretty dumb, but still your right. Oh, and I think you need to try some other restaurants' chicken sandwiches. Chick-fil-A is pretty rancid. One final thought – why in the world would you want to be part of a group that actively discriminates against you? Yeah, I know not all Christians are "like that," (it sure would be nice if they'd speak up), but it's in their holy book, for chrissakes (pun intended). Again, your right as an American to worship as you see fit, but if you ignore that part of the Bible, you're just as bad as those that cherry pick the Bible to use it against you. It's time for all of us to move into the 21st century and leave these crazy mythologies behind.
The company does not discriminate against gays in its business practices, which would be illegal and land the company in hot water. The opinion about gay marriage was shared as a personal opinion of the CEO of the company. The company gives to whatever organization it deems fit to receive its hard-earned money. Period.
To have a strong opinion opposite to the company's is your right. To express it is also your right. To disrupt the company's business is as illegal as if the company did not serve gays, for example.
Let's be clear – no matter what the opinion of the company leaders or who they give money to, they comply with all laws and serve every customer who cares to purchase their product. Here's the bottom line: if you don't like the company, don't buy anything there. If you choose to spend your precious minutes on this earth with a cardboard sign around your neck, parading up and down in front of a store, chanting whatever makes you feel better, more power to you.
This issue with this company is over – as dead as the 'Occupy' movements. It's on minute 16 of its 15 minutes of fame. Many don't agree with the company's stance. But nobody cares anymore and if anything, the company has seen a surge in its sales due to the controversy.
Any homosexuaL can eat or work at CF. Always have been. Religion is for the one person. For me, my Jesus tells ME to not have sex until i'm married to a woman. No heterosexual single people, no homosexuals at all. I think anyone who stays PURE until they marry the other sex or dies goes to heaven and sits on the right hand of God. Homosexuals who stay pure until death sit on the right hand... heterosexuals who have sex out of marriage will not go to heaven You think what you want I will thiunk what I want. That is the great thing about living in the USA.
As if s*xual sin are the only ones that matter....And isn't there something about forgiveness through Jesus Christ for all of out sins? And isn't it the Holy Spirit's job to bring conviction into one's heart, not some sinner, like you?
Tasadd, forgiveness only happens if we repent and place our faith in Christ. There is no automatic forgiveness if we do not respond to the gospel. It is ok to state what God says about all sin. God is the ultimate judge and it is ok to say what is wrong and right according to his standards.
Oh pauleky!! They oppress you! Call the UN. Get therapy. Do something to overcome chicken sandwich the oppprreessoorrrr
This is about the most ridiculous post I have seen recently. I personally agree with Chick-fil-a's original position and it is their right to believe what they choose to believe. That is protected under the Constitution. That said, I regularly buy products from any merchant in my area that offers the product I want and at a competitive price. I never think (although in some cases I know) that the business is owned by a LGBT person. If they want to take their money and give to causes I don't support then more power to them. If Chick-fil-a wants to do the opposite, then that is their right. For LGBT persons to think that everyone and everybody is against them and they hate the ones that don't support them is just additional proof that they don't even believe in their own lifestyle.
I like your way of thinking.
