Sink your teeth into this week's top stories from around the globe.
- Work it! McDonald's gives a behind-the-scenes look at a burger photo shoot. Also known as "why the burger you order at the store doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to the burgers in the chain's advertisements." - Toronto Star
- Speaking of burgers, don't fall into "The Pimento Cheese Trap" by not melting the Southern spread on top of the patty. - Robert F. Moss
- New research shows that moderate noise level in coffee shops and cafés gets your creative juices flowing. ...Huh? What'd you say? - The Atlantic
- Move over, gluten-free. There's a new, hot food label in town, and it's completely kosher. - NPR
- A marvelous ode to Rita, a crime-fighting, octopus-bludgeoning grandmother. She's "a crusty old woman with a no-nonsense façade, but with a warm, rich heart," just like an arancino. - Food for the Thoughtless
No kidding that the food in commercials doesn't bear any resemblance to what you actually get with your order – most restaurants are hiring non-English speaking workers and ex-cons. The new breed of fast food manager has maybe a semester of community college and almost all of these workers are part of the "supplemental club" of welfare recipients working 20 hours a week to collect full food stamps and the other "benefits" of free rent, free cable, daycare, transportation vouchers, free cell phones, etc.
That photo looks like McVomit.
Ha.
Companies should not be allowed to use anything bet there served product in advertising. What part of false advertizing do they not understand.
Plenty of times the imaged food looks worse that the real meal.
Food photography is a terribly fascinating subject. What's cold is warm, what's hot is cold. And so on. All those lovely Thanksgiving turkeys are raw. :-)
I worked at a McD's one summer, and a woman came through the drive-thru and then came inside. She slammed a Quarter Pounder down on the counter, showed us the contents, and got very upset at the "food" she'd been served. It didn't look like a burger or anything fit for human consumption. Of course, we looked at the burger and then back at her like..."Yeah...what are you getting at again?" Across the street was a Fuddruckers. Go there, lady, Don't come to McD's and then complain that your food is tragic.
In case anyone is planning on slamming McDonalds because of what they do to the food for commercials...every food commercial you see has everything doctored up. Often with inedible materials. From using white glue instead of milk in the cereal bowls to carved plastic ice cubes in the beverage glasses.
