Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

      Everyone's on vacation today.

Either that, or I need a shower.

Greetings friends! I'm fairly certain my offspring are trying to kill me. Thing 1 has another bilateral ear infection and since he just completed 2 rounds of oral abx we're now on to IM rocephin and an appt with an ENT doc for tube placements. Thing 2 has another bilateral ear infection and another URI so we're doing another round of oral abx. I've got sore throat, low grade temp and my face feels like it could fall off at any moment. Fun times, y'all.

Hm. "Klatsch on." I like that.

I put forward the motion that this is what we will use as a general greeting from now on. Can I get a second?

@Queenie: I hope things get better with you! It's no fun being sick, especially on a holiday!

Klatsch on – Yea or nay?

I give it a "yea." I like it, too.

The cabin boy (on their cruise ship) just left with their order for breakfast. The port of Monaco was next and they were planning to visit the Casino. Their glee was enhanced by the fact that their coffees (unknown to them) were spiked with something delicious.

Good morning everyone! Hope you all are having a fine President's Day while I sit in this office.

Ugh... Can anyone tell me why I thought having chicarrones with eggs for breakfast was a good idea?

    • Kat Kinsman

"Can anyone tell me why I thought having chicarrones with eggs for breakfast was a good idea?"

Because it WAS! There is never a bad time for chicarrones. Except possibly while sleeping.

        LOL

Yeah, it was a good idea...though I'm questioning the quality of these since I'm feeling real BLAH right now after eating a few of them...

Have some fruit or drink a bunch of water. That may lighten your blah feeling or help your cojones (what did you call them?) digest faster.

I am theoretically off today, but I came into the office to get started on a project. Also, I LOVE working alone, plus, I get to take a copm day later. Win-Win-Win.

And what is a durian fruit? Never heard of such.

    February 20, 2012 at 8:57 am |
    • Kat Kinsman

Durian is an Asian fruit with a scent that has been described as, "pig-s***, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock." This oughta be a good time.

And someone decided that this disarming set of aromas signified something edible???? Now THAT'S an adventurous person!

        February 20, 2012 at 11:58 am |
      • AleeD®@MicG™, Truth & Kat

That's what I wonder about mushrooms & green beans. What went thru the head of the first person to bury their hand in doodie, whip out a 'shroom, eat it raw and decide it was good eats? I love any kind of cooked mushroom, but I can't help but wonder how many people died, tripped out or both before eating mushrooms became part of everyday eating.

The person who discovered green beans just needs to have their melon thunked. (: I'm not a fan. :)

My best guess is that they saw an animal eat them and not die, but that's always been a wonder of mine!

        February 20, 2012 at 12:28 pm |
      • MicheleG™

oh, yeah.....I forgot about the thing wherein someone sees an animal eat something. That WOULD tell a person that the food is probably (at least) not going to kill them.

Liveblogging to see folks' initial reactions should be very entertaining – and even educational. Do you have plans on what you'll do with it after it's opened and the reactions die down?

      February 20, 2012 at 9:15 am |
      • Kat Kinsman

It seems like lot of people just eat it, but I have also found what looks to be a delicious cake recipe. Gotta get a few posts out of the way, but I'm thinking perhaps this afternoon.

Good morning everyone. Hi Truth. *waves* Thanks for the b'fast. Are you off today? I'm not and that's ok.

Had a nice weekend chillin' at la casa. Warm, muggy & overcast all weekend. Today we're expecting a high of 72, had a low of 55 and 0 chance of rain.

Hope everyone has a great President's Day!

Good morning all. Coffee is going and bagels are on the back table.

A dusting of snow last night and an easy commute today, since most of the city is off.

    How was everyone's weekend?

At work and still Sarah-less. Bought a durian fruit yesterday and considering liveblogging the opening thereof.

      • MicheleG™

I googled images for it and it looks weird! Didn't look into more info for it however. Is it the red (or yellow) seed thing (I guess that's what it is) the edible part? Do you eat it raw or cook it?
