Some of the biggest talkers in the news last week were stories revolving around food that might make you look at your menu a little differently. Lots of our readers have been talking about Paula Deen's type 2 diabetes revelation. The popular foodie has had the disease for three years, and is now a paid spokesperson for a diabetes medication. Andrew Weil issued her a challenge to change her eating. Some folks were outraged. Here's what readers had to say - "Overheard on CNN.com: Paula Deen's diabetes, chocolate slavery, food stamps" |

If you're gonna out Paula – Out Rush Limbaugh for being WAY TOO FAT! Out Ellen for being TOO GAY... Out Whoopie for being Black... Out Barbara Walters for being to old and skinny... Out Vanna White for being too long on the Wheel of Fortune... I mean – all of the commenters and haters that are all over PAULA are HYPOCRITES - for some reason, humans find GRATIFICATION in OUTTING others, when actually OTHER PEOPLE's circumstance and situation is STILL NOT YOUR BUSINESS! STOP THE JUDGEMENTAL SILLYNESS! Do you – take care of YOU and stop throwing stones if you're living in a GLASS house baby! I love Paula – Love to eat – Love this country – Hate hypocrites in the media...
Frankly, I don't care what Paula Dean makes or eats. I've really never been a fan, though I'm sure she's a great person. If she wasn't to eat healthy or unhealthy, it should be up to her, just like the rest of us.
However, since she has decided to be a spokeswoman for Diabetes, she should consider how people will view what she cooks from now on. Now she has a different responsibility to her fans. It's different than if she just announced that she was diabetic. Becoming a public figurehead for the fight against her disease puts her in a bind with what made her famous. Without moderation, her recipies aren't healthy for a diabetic. Now that she is being paid to be a spokeswoman, she needs to shift her cooking style up and start focusing on healthier eating. Otherwise, she will come off as a bit of a hypocrite.
I 100% completely Concur!!
