Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

YIKES!! I just called an airport service that I've used many times over the last few years...my driver "Dan" (not his real name) answers and is disoriented, can't remember my names, etc. He remembers and then starts rambling on about his personal life, divorce, wife cheating on him, daughter cut herself, hospital, parties, cops. TMI to the ultimate degree...to the point I thought he was talking to someone else and forgot I was on the phone!

Then abruptly tells me he has to take an important call and will call me back.... Do I answer when he calls back?? I don't think I want to ride with him to the airport, but he's always been reliable and the least expensive service to use....

    HELP

I would say that with him being the cheeapest, you are getting what you are paying for...Guy sounds like he is having a supremely rough patch, but is likely not who you want behind the wheel right now. I would vote for a taxi, bus, limo, water buffalo, golf cart, unicycle, or pogo stick.

Thanks, you are the smartest man in the room! I agree, I think I will not answer his call and find something else or drive myself... He just sounds like he's in a really bad place right now...

He always did talk too much, but mostly about his drama with his sons football coach...booooring (to me anyway).

  3. Jdizzle McHammerpants ♫♫ @ OFFICE PRANKS

Speaking of office tricks, here's a good one I pull a lot:

When someone walks away from their computer without locking it, I like to go over and press CTRL+ALT+[one of the arrow keys] and change the screen lay out. (try it on yourself to see what I mean, use each arrow once to see what each does). Then when they get back I like to watch them get all confused/panicked about it. Right before they call IT for help I 'fess up and show them how to change it back.

I also used to work with a marketing lady who was none too bright. I once had her convinced that if you fed a page into a fax machine bottom first, as opposed to top first, that the recipient would never be able to read it. This same person was also VERY gullible...At the time, the "Chicken Soup For The Soul" books were just getting big, and we had her convinced that there was a volume called "Chicken Soup For The Prosi!tute's Soul", which was a collection of uplifting stories aimed at women of the evening.

      Ah, good memories!

Most of the southern food I had was fresh homegrown veggies and lean game meat like deer and fish. And it was not deepfried. Even the fried food here is better than the fried food in the north. Ill take fried chicken over fish and chips anyday.

        January 18, 2012 at 1:01 pm |
      • JainaJade@Jerv

Steampunk is a fusing between history (typically Victorian Era) and modern technologies but using old fashioned techniques. Is considered to a be a version of Sci-Fi but can have some fantasy aspects. For clothing you will see people in Victorian era garmets with metal pieces added on, such as aviator goggles, belts, personal aviation devices (metal wings, propellers, ...) Some of the garments will also look very Dr. Livingstone, but this is more of a sub branch of Steampunk that deals with the adventure lifestyle.
        Examples:
Books: Clockwork Angel, 20k Leagues under the Sea, His Dark Materials, Infernal Devices (Cassandra Clare and W.K. Jeter)
Movies/TV: Wild Wild West, Steamboy (anime), some Dr. Who episodes

      • JainaJade@Jerv

Golden Compass is the first book in the His Dark Material series. Originally all three were going to be movies but the first one tanked so badly it didn't happen. The movie really missed the mark compared to the books, you should totally give them a go!

I'd have posted on the Paula Deen thread but with over a thousand comments already, my two cents would have been drowned out by the clamor. (sigh)

I'm Type 2 as well and enjoy her style if not the food. A person DOES have to take responsibility for themselves.

    January 18, 2012 at 11:44 am |
    • Truth™@MicheleG

I could not agree more. I normally like Anthony Bourdain, but I wish he would tone down the rhetoric. Deen does not walk around force feeding people, so I wish that entire thread would just lighten up. Eat what is right for you and let others do the same. I have a VERY hard time with anyone who pushed the food proselytizing thing.

If you REALLY want something to get emotional about, go check the food slavery thread.

And yet, if we didn't buy these things, the economic consequences would be even worse...
How DO you resolve a moral dilemma like this? Signing a petition seems so pusillanimous. So removed. So weak. SO easy for the perpetrators to utterly ignore.

Amen to both of you. The posts about Deen are just down right ugly. The hand full of times I've seen her on TV I found her to be funny and she would say something along the lines of "now this isn't something that you eat every day or even every week."

        January 18, 2012 at 11:57 am |
    • ™©JbJiNg!eŚ®™

It amazes me the ugliness of the comments there (where are the moderators over there?)...and that all of those people must have watched her show(s) or they could not relate what her cooking was about. She started out very poor with two small boys to raise alone, I can relate to that very much, and she made something for herself. I enjoy her show, but rarely make her recipes. I recently saw one show where the son was on making a bit healthier version of something with her, that I might try.

Good Morning Shirley–How are you this fine Morning?

      January 18, 2012 at 8:33 am |
    • Sir Biddle@RH

Not to shaby at all. The office is quiet which I love and I am going on the road on Friday to a pretty kick @ss city. How goes it in Plant City, still waiting for the OJ to be loaded?

      January 18, 2012 at 8:43 am |
      • RichardHead@SirB

Yes Sir,Worker Ants these guys Ain't. BTW–Willie Mae's has a website and from the sounds of it is located in a tuff part of town. Git there early and order some to go also, so you can eat the BEST Fried Chicken while watching Football.

        January 18, 2012 at 8:55 am |
      • Sir Biddle@RH

Plan to hit Willie Mae's for certain! Got a couple of other favorites to hit too. Jonny's Po-Boys is one of my fav's.

Should be a good time. Last time I was there our entire group got rip roaring smashed (imagine that on Bourbon Street) and someone dropped their chilli-dog on the craps table at Harrah's casino at 3:00 am. The group quickly split up from there and it was every man for themselves at that point.

        January 18, 2012 at 8:59 am |
      • RichardHead@SirB

Ohhhhh Yea, I remember missing the last step on the cable car and falling flat on my face in a grassy area ( thank God) after a nite of debauchery on Bourbon St. and a few too many Hurricanes. A Fine City, I must Concur. :))

Good morning from the cold but sunny DMV. Lots of things on the agenda for today, we shall see how it goes!

    January 18, 2012 at 8:30 am |
    • RichardHead@JJ

Morning JJ....Did you ever get final results from the Doc? You don't have to share due to HIPA rules if you don't want to.

      January 18, 2012 at 8:35 am |
      • JainaJade@RH

MRI results yesterday, so the good news is that they are 100% positive it's not a cancer recurrence. I am going to a Rheumatologist (sp?) on Monday and will hopefully have an answer then on what is going on. Right now they are still thinking RA but we shall see!

        January 18, 2012 at 9:21 am |
      • AleeD®@JainaJade

Congratulations on it not being cancer. That's good news.

Now that Good News makes my Day. If you get a chance, you might contact JBJ as she has been poked and prodded and goes through a similar therapy session I think.

Sorry you are still waiting on some word...may I ask what symptoms in general? And what did they see on the MRI?

I've had lots of MRI's that last few months...brain, cervical spine, thoracic spine, and repeat on thoracic...

RH has my email if you want to chat offline.
