Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

Just found this site that has downloadable vintage recipe books! Very cool. We only had Minute Rice when I was growing up, and only margarine, never real butter, oh and Miracle Whip!!

Ice Skating anyone? Just passed the local mall at lunch and they have the outdoor skating rink 78 degrees. Yep, people were there with hats and scarves on. I guess it's fun to pretend it's cold??

Only in CA would people think it's fun to pretend to be cold.

I'll scrape some of that ice up for your beer...should be really tasty after people skating on it or worse, skidding on their butts on it.

    My Dearest Fearless Leaders.......
You both have given us a lot of leeway on many subjects and I truly appreciate that. I do have one question that I hope you can answer.....Does CNN support Sophos? Just wondering because of the weird word catchings or Webster Dictionary words that are constantly flagged. Love you both and Happy New Year.

No MAC here either... Though I did have one of the originals back in my advertising days...for a whopping $10k! :) Most businesses have PC's so that is what I got used to and use at home. But I do have an IPhad!! LOL

No worries, Mate. I'm not getting religious or political on a food blog. I was letting folks know about some, uh, red seas that were getting mightily stirred up in a different part of the playground.

Good day all. Today's lunch is office holiday potluck take 2. Everyone brought in a lot of food, so they set up the leftovers in a conference room.

Well, just checked the forecast and no snow expected in NY on Sunday, but in Ulan Bator, the high is expected to be -1, with a low of 26 below tomorrow night. Suddenly I feel downright fortunate...

SF vs. STL: I like the song "If You're Going to San Francisco" better than "Meet Me in St. Louis" so 49ers all the way!
Indy vs. Jacksonville: Didn't we already play them? Normally I go for the alliterative pick but we seem to be on a winning streak. Go Colts!
Dallas vs. NYG: Stars are pretty. Go Cowboys!
Tenn vs. Houston: Oooooo, the state that got the Oilers vs. the town that lost them. I don't know of many T!tans from Tennesee but you know, they have the alliteration going for them.

    December 29, 2011 at 10:03 am |
    • Truth™@NFL Nosepicks

Ok, then I will go with:
      New York Giants

      December 29, 2011 at 10:06 am |
    • RichardHead@Picks

I gotz to get back in the game soooooo, here we goooooo...
      1. SF 49'ers
      2. Jacksonville–I'm surprised the Dolts can even find Jacksonville, much less a football.
      3. In Honor of My Brother Truth–NYGiants and I hope it is snowing.
      4. In a squeeker-Houston Oilers–I mean Texans. Big game played in and won by Houston.
Let it be Written...Let it be so.

      December 29, 2011 at 10:30 am |
    • Jerv@NFL Nosepickers

Looks like I'm gonna copy y'alls papers and make the same picks.

      San Fran over Steelers
      Jacksonville over Indy
      Giants over Dallas
      Houston over Tenn

Morning Lil' Buddy–CLEAN THOSE GLASSES! Ha-it's the St. Louis Rams so they should win any way. What's up in Virginny?

        December 29, 2011 at 10:43 am |
      • Jerv@RicH

Haha! My bad! Not much doing here in VA. Taking care of a bunch of loose ends before our hell months, January and February. How much do you pay for diesel in your nect of the woods. I see it is up to 4.53 in Richmond.

        December 29, 2011 at 11:00 am |
      • RichardHead@Jerv

DayUmm–Youse Guys is proud of the GOGO juice. It's averaging $ 3.65 to $ 3.75 in Texas and about the same in Alabama. I always try to fuel up in either place just in case. You gonna get to see the Dallas game on Sunday? They moved it to prime time on NBC.

        December 29, 2011 at 11:28 am |
      • Truth™@RichHead, Jerv

Looking VERY forward to the NYG-DAL game here. New Year's, so there is no bowling on Sunday night. Will be nice to light a fire, and watch the game in its entirety.

And diesel is running $3.69 a gallon here, while unleaded is about go under three bucks again. Not that I really care.

        December 29, 2011 at 11:35 am |
      • Jerv@RicH

Maybe 3.53 is what I saw. I'll double check that on the way home. I paid 2.99 a gallon on Tuesday for gas and the next day it went up to 3.14. You betcha on the Dallas game. It should be a tight game.

Dang! That's too close! Isn't it soon supposed to become a standard feature that your headlights automatically come on when you use your windshield wipers? I've been hearing about that for a few years and haven't seen it yet. When that happens, I hope all the nutjobs (nutsacks? Really?) who wouldn't have turned their headlights on in the first place, forget to turn them off.

G'morning happy Klatchers! Our sweet lady-buyer & I were greeted first thing this morning by a rat in a glue trap – still alive of course. She wanted him freed from the trap somewhere outside. I wanted him gone – in any sense of the word. I nicely asked our lab guy to please dispose of the critter and I don't care how he does it. Lady-buyer says, "Whaddya mean you have to kill him?!? Just take him outside and get him off!"

    I haven't stopped laughing.
