While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday.

You won't want to throw this pie in anyone's face - September 28 is National Strawberry Cream Pie Day!

Make the most of the last summer strawberries with one sweet send-off.  It doesn't get more old-fashioned than this simple, comforting dessert that's bursting with the juicy, ruby-red remains of the season.

From the crispy crust filled with rich cream to the luscious strawberry topping, you'll be licking the plate clean after the last slice of this pie flies out of the pan. The filling is typically made with sugar, milk, eggs, whipping cream and cornstarch to thicken it to just the right degree of gooey perfection. Simply make a topping with fresh strawberries, sugar and cornstarch (again, to thicken) and heavily glaze the pie.

One bite and you'll be in strawberry cream pie heaven. But we're warning you; share this pie with any of your friends and they may never leave.

I'm all for a fresh strawberry pie. But where in the US are strawberries coming into season at this late hour?
