While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday.

Top o' the muffin to you!  - July 11 is National Blueberry Muffin Day.

Blueberries are just bursting with flavor in the good ol' summertime and we can't think of a better way to sample the season than baking them into a pan of warm muffins.

A match made in culinary heaven, blueberry muffins are the ultimate comfort food.  It's a cupcake without the frosting, perfectly sweet and even made with fruit - so they're good for you too, no?

The original American muffin started out smaller, drier and much less exciting than today's successful coffeehouse darlings. Beginning in the 1970s, people began calling for bigger, better muffins because of a rise in specialty food stores and gourmet coffee, the health food movement and a decline in home-cooking.

The result? Steve Carrell said it best: "I ordered a muffin ... but I think they gave me a small planet." Here's to James Beard's spectacular blueberry muffin recipe rocking your world.

We had fantastically rainy and cool weather in May.

I had one heck of a bumper blueberry crop; I have a bush that's outside in my back yard. I must have gotten 10 pints from that one bush...and yes, there were blueberry muffins!

Whoa, wait a minute, where's your backup for saying it's blueberry muffin day? 'Cause, 11 July, today, is actually Rainier Cherry Day: http://www.cooksinfo.com/rainier-cherry-day

Instead of celebrating with a 400 calorie muffin, a BlueBran VitaTop (muffin top) is only 100 calories.

How about just making the muffin tops? Would there be a separate national blueberry muffin day for that? http://www.horizonequipment.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=696
