Pssst! Got a sec to chat?

We are utterly thrilled when readers want to hang out and talk – whether it's amongst themselves or in response to pieces we've posted. We want Eatocracy to be a cozy, spirited online home for those who find their way here.

Consider the daily Coffee Klatsch post as your VIP lounge – the primary comments thread for readers who'd like to chat about topics not related to the articles we're running. That way, everyone knows where to find each other, and each post's comments section remains on topic.

My marathon day of meetings and lectures is finally over! Now that I actually have time to do some work, I'm completely not in the mood for it.

On a lighter note, it appears that I need to eat lots of pasta and drink red wine to get ready for my race. That is just about the best news I could get :-)!!! And a big thank you to Kat for posting the link to that article!!

I can't believe it-Not guilty?!!! Reminds me of the OJ trial. I do remember the Scott Peterson trial and I was soooo happy when the jury came back with a guilty verdict on that one.

Nice job on the fence..So when are you gonna paint it? Ha-just messin' with ya! Did you get any of the oil where you are at?

      • MT Miner

lol, pressure treated lumber, its green.... If the bride wants a different color, she can have at it :)

The oil is over by Billings, about 150 miles west of me in the Bozeman area. All of the inlaws live in Billings though, so it was a hot topic Sunday when they all converged on my humble abode to devour all of my 13 lbs off BBQ'd pork loin and fixings.

As I sit here and listen to the attorneys pat each other on the back,I remember 1991 when Reginald Denny was dragged out of his truck in Los Angeles CA, and a brick was thrown point blank into his head after being beaten by many men. I have NEVER been back to the State of California since then. I am thinking of doing the same thing with the State of Florida.

It's tough when you realize that a 3 or 4 year old girl is dead and has a lying Mother that doesn't really care about her. Oh,well I hope I don't get a ticket in Florida!

Just a quick fly-by for me today. Finally was able to get the part for my car, so my front drivers side door will now stay closed!!! :) The wireless router died last night, and I've got a wake to go to this afternoon. That, plus it's hotter than Hades out there, and muggy too.

    Gotta love summer! LOL

    July 5, 2011 at 1:12 pm |

Sooooooo glad you got the door fixed. You reminded me of some folks from south of the border driving while holding onto a mattress while trying to go 55 miles an hour on the freeway.HA! Take care today.

Ahhhhhh Yes,the one we have on video. I'm really surprised you didn't break an ankle while wearing those high heels and trying to get the 8 ball in the pocket at the same time. :)))))

        Wait a minute...there's video?!?! Crap...

        July 5, 2011 at 1:00 pm |
    • AleeD@TWO & RH

@TWO, what happened when you turned 25?
@RH, it's the only way I'll eat a hot dog or a corn dog. It's yummy and takes me back to my childhood. I support Snowbunny 100%. *hands RH a hankie*

I always have fun too. I won't drink when I'm depressed – ever. And I remember everything from every binge I've been on ... with two exceptions.
      1. I was on a date I before BB&I were dating. I was drinking vodka & grapefruit that nite and don't remember a single dingbusted thang .... 'til I woke up the next morning in my boyfriend's waterbed. Urp. My car was in front of his house, but I have no idea how it got there. He said I drove it. Eeeeck!
      2. Was when BB&I were dating. We went on a major Runrunner binge and I have some memory of landing in the restaurant bathroom, but not much more than that. He married me in spite of all that I remember ... and all that I don't. :D So I must not have behaved THAT badly.

You just feel free to use whatever absorbent material you need to wipe whatever part of your tender body needs it.

And, thanks to TWO, I have a black market ketchup connection. Cool.

        July 5, 2011 at 1:50 pm |
      • RichardHead@AleeD

If it ain't Heinz,It ain't Ketchup!! I always thought you were a nice person, just like Snowbunny...The Truth will set you free. I'm crying so much I can't see the keyboard.

        July 5, 2011 at 1:58 pm |
      • The Witty One@AleeD

I went to my old local bar back home and ended up taking about 25 shots of jager in a couple of hours. Everyone was buying me shots...it was ridiculous. I ended up having a friend drive me home. I stopped drinking at 11PM and when I woke up at 4PM the next day, I was still drunk. Which actually worked in my favor since I was able to rehydrate before the hangover kicked in :)

        July 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm |
      • AleeD@TWO & RH

TWO: Ah grasshoppah – you have opened your mind and taken in what many refuse to: it's all about rehydration. Would that some of the 'necks in my family would learn that. I think they just enjoy suffering. As QOE calls them A$$hats.

RH: You know what they say, "Mean people spit, nice people ... " well, nevermind. I'm still a nice person. ;) Here – have another beach towel.

        July 5, 2011 at 2:13 pm |
      • The Witty One@AleeD

Oh yeah...I even pre-hydrate. A couple of glasses of normal H2O and a couple bottle of coconut water before I go out. Then another bottle before bed (which I forgot to do last night) and one in the morning and I am usually right as rain :)

        Not today however....

        July 5, 2011 at 2:16 pm |
      • AleeD@TWO@RH

What was different this time? Are you at least pounding h2o now? :) I'll down a big cuppa coffee, take 2 IB'S then drink water til I feel like a human bean again. ;)

Rich, you're ok, too – for a mustard lover. ;)

Good morning all. Getting a late start as bride and I both woke up at the same time, and got a little uhm, distracted.

JJ, please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your father in law. It has to be difficult for you, so please let us know if there is anything you need. Too much loss in the klatch this summer. I am more than ready for fall.

Ugh....don't mention Mr. Daniels. That bastard is the reason I feel so crappy. Well, him and the fact that I shut down the bar last night... :)

        July 5, 2011 at 12:08 pm |
      • The Witty One@AleeD

On a side note, I now have a partner in crime for my get rich quick schemes. We even came up with a great idea last night! Selling ketchup on the black market! (google it)

"I wonder what the going rate for pickles is. I'd stab a brother for some fu cking pickles. " Too funny found this on the internets.

        July 5, 2011 at 12:21 pm |

Black market ketchup? Is RichHd trying to boycott its use on hot dogs again?

GOT THAT MORNING-AFTER FEELING FROM BROTHER JACK EH?! SORRY TO HEAR THAT! LOL!

I recently re-discovered Woodchuck cider. Love the dark amber but the pear tastes like beer (not a beer fan). Next is going to be the Granny Smith version. Yum!

        July 5, 2011 at 12:40 pm |
      • The Witty One@AleeD

        *Winces..

I actually don't think it ws the jack. It might have had something to do with the 8-9 killians I drank in between the shots :)

        July 5, 2011 at 12:43 pm |
      • Jerv@AleeD and 2

Oh, a Granny Smith version does sound really good. My favorite apple.

        July 5, 2011 at 12:43 pm |
      • AleeD@Jerv

I may just get the GS version and not sweat finishing off the pear. I'll bring it to the lounge tomorrow. It'll probably go really well with those apple turnovers. ;)

Ok... if I send out a notice that something won't be available from 2-3 (mentioned twice in the message), then why am I getting asked what time the outage is?

    July 5, 2011 at 10:36 am |
    • AleeD@Mildred

      [Soapbox time!]

Because people don't read their email. If you ignore them, they'll figure it out .... probably around 2 or 3 o'clock. HA!

      July 5, 2011 at 10:44 am |

  28. Mildred

Good morning all. *hugs to JJ and her family*
I'll check out the muffin recipe... my fiance likes combinations like that.

My July 4th weekend was filled with friends, campfires, good booze (and introducing a brandy based vanilla-citrus liquor called Tuaca to a bunch of friends), dipping into a nice clean river, seeing a friend get recognized for his cooking skills and food presentation*, and good food... followed by board and card games.

    July 5, 2011 at 8:21 am |
    • Jerv@Mil

Yeah, sounds like you did your 4th up right. Sounds like a great time.

      July 5, 2011 at 8:26 am |

There were even fireworks. Not our grou,p but a place across the river from where we set up every year; they have a small fireworks show at some point over the weekend.

      * I (sorta) belong to a medieval/Elizabethan re-enactment/re-creation group called the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). Our internal structure has awards and other things to recognize people for different things; combat arts, service, courtesy/courtliness, and arts. This friend is an excellent cook and has done some great research into medieval/Elizabethan era recipes and redacting them into modern terms and (sometimes) ingredients. He also pays particular attention to period presentation and table service. This weekend he was recognized for that with a significant level award. And he had no idea he was getting it. *grin*

Starting off the day right, I already have been moderated! Boo-rah!! Great weekend. Saw Green Lantern with the pops and my doggie has a little red badge of courage pasta sauce stain on her fur. How bout you and WD?

Did some drankin' and smokin'.it was great. What'd you and Pops think of the movie? What kind of trouble did your dog get into?

We both thought the movie was great. I liked how the girl reacted to first seeing him in his green mask. At some point when cooking, some pasta sauce dripped on my dog. I thought she was bleeding but she was fine. Had to be there, it was funny, Good lord, it is going to take me a while to weed through all these emails. Was it too hot to grill this past weekend in Texas??

It sounds like you and Pop's had a great Holiday. Yea,I would have been freaking out about the dog also...Glad everything turned out o.k. I've learned to start the grill around 7:00p.m. and by the time the coals are ready it's only 92 or 93 degrees.

"only 92 or 93 degrees" LOL! I guess you're acclimated to that heat my friend. I would die. Did you put a July forth bandana on WD and let her run around the yard with a sparkler chasing the squirels?

Oh yea,she was strutting around the yard like a BIG dog. She has learned a trick due to the heat about the squirrels..she waits until they cover their heads with their tails to block the sun and then does a kamakazie hit on their azzez. She is brilliant.
