What do women want? If Burger King has anything to say about it, the answer may be gelatinous mystery meat.

Today, the fast-food chain unveiled its SPAM burger in Tokyo, Japan - and this one goes out to an unlikely audience.

"SPAM is very popular among Japanese ladies," said Kazuha Sakamoto, Burger King's Marketing Manager.

So, we want to know:

    Burger King, are you listening?

Are you EVER going to come to Osaka? I've been waiting several years since you moved back to Tokyo. If you come, I won't even object if you bring your Spam Burger with you. All I want is a place where I can buy a decent burger once in a while.

Not "fun" like the breadless double fried chicken breasts with bacon and cheese sandwich.

It takes lots and lots of critters to make farmer Vincent's fritters. Spam is a ripoff of my uncle Vincent's farm fritters. He worked hard to get the meat for those fritters and spam company stole his idea. Wonder why they can't find Jimmy Hoffa and others – Spam!

Mmmm, know I'm in the minority here, but I think spam is great! Fry it up a bit in a pan so it gets a good crispiness and make a sandwich or put it over rice with eggs for breakfast. And of course there's the wonders of spam musubi too. Heck, I once even worked for the touring cast of SPAMalot, best job I ever had!

Fraternities feed their pledges spam and watch them vomit. It doesn't take much. Less than a can each.

I figure that Spam is a case of 'nose to tail' eating........all the bits that are leftover because they aren't "pretty" or may be wiggly. It is a good thing not to let a part of the animal go to waste. I'm not that fond of Spam, but I love the wiggly bits!

Pig Newtons! Unroll a can of Pilsbury crescent dough. Pat down the perforations in the dough. Lay slices of Spam end to end down the middle. Fold up the sides. Cut in appropriate squares. Bake as you would crescents. Have served these at parties with mustard! People were SHOCKED to learn it was SPAM! LOL! I've only ever brought home a clean serving plate, BTW.

It's OK. Too salty to eat on its own. but can be tasty. Hawaii consumes tons of Spam.

No worse than a hot dog. I want to see all patriots who have that "These colors don't run" sticker go to the defense of hot dogs, bologna, and reconstituted ham slices and rail on French fries now.

Of course Americans love it. It's loaded with sweetener, probably sugar or corn syrup. It's so sweet when I tried it my teeth ached. And we wonder why diabetes is becoming pandemic in the US. Well, some of don't.

I love it. I cut it up to very thin, and pan fry it. sometime put a few drops of egg on top. It tasts so good with steam rice.

Koreans loved that crap when I was stationed there back in the 1980's at OSAN AB. Put it this way SPAM went a long way in getting what you wanted or needed. LMAO

It was a childhood torture of mine in the late 60's and early 70's. Has anyone ever actually been to a hot dog rendering factory...I promise you will never eat a hot dog again!

That's about the same time frame when mom served it to us as kids. Ugh. Can't stand any meat that's packed in jelly.

No animals had to die for a spam sandwich, even though I'm not exactly sure what's in it. Also, that's why I cook it very thoroughly before I eat it.

    June 20, 2011 at 6:49 pm |
    • Cletus

Maybe no animals had to die, but I am sure there are a lot of animals that are missing eyelids, the skin between their toes, tails, lips...among other things that are used to make SPAM. Yummy!

      June 20, 2011 at 7:19 pm |
    • Tom

The main ingredient in SPAM is pork shoulder...

      It's also pre-cooked.

It appears you don't know what goes into SPAM. Let me tell you. SPAM = (S)quirrel (P)ossum (A)nd (M)ice. there now ya know.

A few years back, they introduced a smokey flavored Spam. It was superb and now they no longer market it, at least I haven't seen it in stores for some time.

I inherited my taste for Spam from my father (ex-navy and they used it frequently aboard ship during WWII). Our favorite was fried chunks of Spam mixed in barely scrambled eggs heaped onto slices of my mother's home-made sourdough bread toast.

Dang, now I'm going to have to run to the store and get some Spam, eggs and a loaf of Panerra Sourdough.

    Yeah....I'll hold the spam thanks.
Fortunately, despite Spam is made in my state, its not that popular...save the deep fried spam curds....*shudders*

I forced myself to try it a while back and was surprised. I won't be going out of my way to eat it, but I will be bringing a few cans on every camping trip I take from here on out. It's tasty enough for breakfast and way easier to carry/store than sausage and/or bacon.

Bah...it's no worse that what they put in hot dogs, really. In fact it's probably better. Probably.

I must admit, every fall, I have 6 or 7 breakfast sandwiches that consist of fried Spam, 2 eggs over hard, and a slice of american proccessed cheese, on toasted sourdough. it is a hunting camp tradition, and out there, everything tastes good, hunger is the best spice.

We have the Canadian version. It's called KLIK, Nasty stuff . but having said that , We have basicly the same thing only scrambled and old canadian cheddar. Heart attack on a paper plate!!! LMAO.

McDonald's has spam for breakfast in Hawaii which I thought was a little weird. They sure do love their spam there.

      June 20, 2011 at 5:43 pm |
    • Miyuki

I believe they did do it in Hawaii at one point at least. I'm not sure if they still do.

I was born an raised in Honolulu, I love spam... my husband thinks I am nuts... but in Hawaii we used to eat it different ways for different meals...

      June 20, 2011 at 6:36 pm |
    • JimiJons

I lived in Hawaii for 7 years. I love SPAM and Burger King (despite all its super-healthy high-quality non-mass produced food) *ahem*, so naturally this is good news for me. They just need to move this stateside. I don't know why so many people bash SPAM so much... it's tasty, soft kind of like bologna, and can be cooked in so many different ways.

      June 20, 2011 at 7:58 pm |
  32. Evil Glare

Isn't that what all of Burger King's burgers are made of?

You know, the Japanese have ramen shops on every corner (in my head). Why would they ever want to eat American fast food?

    June 20, 2011 at 3:08 pm |
    • mike

Same reason Americans often eat Asian junk food, maybe? Noodles aren't healthy...

      June 20, 2011 at 6:39 pm |
      • Evil Grin

Heh, probably. That was actually me saying I'd much prefer ramen to a hamburger. Or SPAMburger, I suppose. And doesn't everyone have the same opinion as me? ;)
