While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday and the most delicious finds on TV.
November 3 marks National Sandwich Day. The day is commissioned as such because on this very day in 1718, John Montagu, the Fourth Earl of Sandwich, was born.
Popular lore goes that it is he who universalized the portable favorite of on-the-go and stand-up diners. The Earl fancied himself a card game and began to request two pieces of bread with a meat filling so that he may eat with one hand and continue the game without interruption. Thus, the Earl's favorite meal received his namesake.
Today, grinder groupies, Dagwood devotees and panini partisans rejoice! Here's to a filling holiday.
So - what'll it be?
