Today, the Food and Drug Administration heard from parties involved in the production and regulation of genetically modified salmon, developed by AquaBounty Technologies to be approved as a food source.
Speakers included AquaBounty Technologies Executive Director, President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ron Stotish, Dr. Yonathan Zohar chair of the Department of Marine Biotechnology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Dr. Larissa Rudenko of the FDA, who stated that the group has not yet made a decision.
Said Dr. Rudenko, "We are looking for good and constructive conversation."

I am in profession where I see what others can't.The FDA should be split into 2 divisions with 1 for food and 1 for drugs.All the research should be done by Universities worldwide.The best, brightest and unbiased minds throughout the world.FDA inspectors have to deal with manufacturing in different countries.The people KNOW when the inspections are coming and adjust.After the inspectors leave it is back to the sloppy standards.Take a look at the heparin that came from China it was contaminated with chrondroitin and other chemicals and it my opinion it was either sheer stupidity or no accident.
FDA does not have the power and does not have the staff.Take a look at Johnson +Johnson once a fairly decent drug company when it was McNeil -Johnson now it is a joke.FDA sent them numerous warning letters for YEARS to clean it up.Johnson laughed at them because they have money.The wronged patients have been become collateral damage because 1 or 2 million dollars is nothing to them.
FDA board members change over the years and now their votes are public so you can tell who is on the take.Some political groups want deregulation of companies and for companies to police themselves. This never works and now we have created some big giant monsters in all industries.Stay Healthy more later...............................
Hey guys, it's not about the taste. What is being done to us in the name of bigger or better taste or cost reduction is not relevant to the problem of creating something which is not natural and HAS BEEN PROVEN to alter whatever eats it to MODIFY THEM GENETICLY. Link to the research that's already been done and realize we are rolling the dice geneticly...just because we can, And for the sake of big business who's aim is to claim ownership of the food we eat... ALL the food we eat ! If you are not aware of what is going on ...make an effort to educate yourselves. Once we turn the corner on this stuff we won't be able to recall the damage. And damage has already been done repeatedly with the worst yet to come. The aim here is to control food, not improve anything. Just like the aim is to control all of earth's resources so business will have a free rein to charge whatever they want...and they want it ALL. That's the aim...that's the end. Government has no current plan to control this abuse and shows no signs of interest of ever doing so. There is already a massive effort also to control 1st amendment freedom of speech regarding GMO foods...that's right ...you will be arrested for your opinion...Good Luck and remember you now have the facts and still have the right to act. It won't last long. Many countries have banned GMO foods for good cause. Those countries still have their freedom of speech.
My biggest concern on this is the level of growth hormones in the flesh and fat of these genetically modified fish. Are they higher than the levels in the natural equivalent fish and if so are these hormones bio-active in humans? If there is any hint of this I would be totally against this. We already are seeing the effects of antibiotics fed to chickens yielding disease resistant human germs and estrogen-like drugs affecting young children when fed to livestock.
Say NO to GMO if you are a fat uneducated American with a full stomach.
These are big "ifs" here...there is nothing here that tells us anything. Measure inflammation levels. These animals are most likely sick. Measure inflammation levels in people that eat genetically modified corn. That tells you something.
Do we need to take up a collection to support an agency that will look out for the humans? The government run ones are just using our money against us.
Let's face it, if anyone was really concerned by the safety of our food, 1/2 of today's groceries store would be immediately vacant.
The real issue here is intellectual property (IP) and holding smaller fisherman and food producers hostage to large IP suites over patents on genes.
Large companies will unleash armies or layers and destroy small producers and drown them in legal fees. Producers can face legal fees upwards of $500K just to prove that the suite has no basis.
The health debate is bogus!!! This is a plot to control the food supply.
Food and drugs...they are already making us sick with genetically modified corn in everything. The drugs don't work. So don't waste your time on that route. You have to quit eating their food.
The FDA's job is to protect us. Allowing this genetically modified fish can have long term effects on our organism and our future. Do the right thing and say NO to sll GMO food. We don't want it.

so the GMO fish will take the place of all the fish we will lose because of Pebble Mine – makes sense, destroy the real thing and then play god and create one – wonder how the outcome will be in the food chain on our children?
