Food in the Field gives a sneak peek into what CNN's team is eating as they travel the globe. Today's contributor, photojournalist Jeremy Harlan is based in Washington D.C., but he travels. A lot. John King's Election Express is hitting the road this political season and hey - a crew's gotta eat, right? Photojournalist Jeremy Harlan indulged in a local tradition, the "Thurmantor" at Columbus, Ohio's Thurman Café. By some minor miracle - perhaps divine intervention, or maybe the encouragement of fellow JKUSA producer Susie Xu - Jeremy emerged triumphant, unscathed and well fed. Jeremy acquired the burger's commemorative T-shirt (not the first of his career) as well as the awe and respect of colleagues, and the right to show his face in the Buckeye State again, even though he skipped the accompanying side of fries. (Wuss.) Get the dish on the rest of the Election Express menu at John King USA's blog Previously - John King loves himself a diner John King is teaming up with Gowalla, the location based mobile and web service, to share his experiences from the road. Last year, John visited all 50 states following President Barack Obama’s inauguration and sat down with residents in local diners to hear their stories and discuss important issues. John has compiled his favorite diners for Gowalla and you can now visit them as well. To participate and see the trips John has created, Gowalla users should follow John by going to John King, USA’s Gowalla page and clicking the "follow John King, USA" button in the right column. You will then have access to John’s custom Trips at Gowalla.com or on your smartphone via the Gowalla app. |

hahaha oh wow i didnt know the literacy police were GUNA look at my post....get a life! its a FU@#ING blog!!!
This is why the US is the laughingstock of the world. What a disgusting spectacle. No wonder obesity is at epidemic levels. Grow up, Americans. Eat healthy food, not this garbage.
"Laughing stock of the world" your an idiot! it is the place where most people want to be...I feel lucky that i get to choose what i eat, when i want to eat it, have a job that i actually enjoy, drive the nice cars i choose to drive. You are either a stuck up American or just a jealous person...people dont risk their and their childrens lives for no reason to get in this Paradise!
It's YOU'RE not your. Proof that in addition to obesity we also have an illiteracy problem.
O-H
The 3# challenge at Metro Burger in Akron OH.9 patties 9 slices of cheese, fry and drink needs to be done in 20 min.
I go *Pee-Pee* on dat burrgurr !!
LOL. I made a similar comment yesterday that was immediately removed from the board.
This is just a nauseating, gluttonous spectacle. Promoting gorging is wrong on so many levels. No wonder America is the most obese nation in the world. There are enough calories in there for 3 days, not to mention the sodium and fat grams. What happened to normal portions? This is utterly gross!
Actually, Australia is the most obese nation in the world, now.
Gross. Just gross.
That sandwich is nothing compared to a rueben from the Carnagie Deli in Manhattan. Try that one Jeremy. Then we'll know if you're really a man.
That's nothing. Try the 50 or 100 pound burgers at Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in PA. (Although you do have to provide a day or two's notice for them I guess.) I'm sure that some place has already one-upped them by now though.
yum yum yum, that looks great and all this talk about food is really getting me hungry,...i pig out all the time but am naturally thin.... 6'5 200 lbs lol bring on the food!
Still disgusting to watch them do it...
Think that's a big burger. Meh! Try the burgers at Heart Attack Grill in AZ. Unbelievably big. [8,000 calories] Unbelievably bad [cooked in pure lard], too!

People who eat this crap deserve to die. And they say smoking is bad...what about the crap food you put inside of you.
Judgemental much? C'mon, it's not like they eat this crap every single day, or week, or month for that matter! Once in a 'blue moon' as they say isn't going to kill anyone! Lighten up!
Revolting. I hope he has a heart attack
That looks gross
you look gross
LOL
American gluttany. You could feed a small village for a day with that thing and we make it into a contest.
USA!
USA!
USA!
Yeah, count me as one of them. That IS disgusting!! Hopefully he took it with a blood pressure and cholesterol pill??
I definitely love my burgers, but that thing is just a monstrosity of overindulgence!!
It probably looks better in person. The photo here makes the sandwich look disgusting.
Of course, there are those who would say that anyway.
It IS disgusting, and, if he continues to eat like that, in a few years HEwill be disgusting. Nothing is more repulsive than a fat
man.
Unless he's rich, right sweetie?
Usually it's just the opposite. The picture looks good and the actual burger looks worse, I could only imagine what this looks like in person. I'd love every bite though.
haahahaha! this burger is small. I ate a 3 1/2 lb burger in 18 mins. and I'm 6'3, 195.
Actually now you're 198.5 :)
LOL!
Actually two 12oz burgers is the same as 3 1/2 lb burgers, plus the bacon and ham and tons of cheese. I agree with you though, this is very doable, and I'm only 5'11" 185
He claims to have eaten a 3.5 lb burger – not three half-pound burgers as you misread.
Holy mackerel, four guys could get a full meal from one Thurman-ator!
I watch and enjoy Man vs. Food, but on the level where a man enjoys going to the zoo or the circus. Some of the eating challenges border on cruelty and spectacle so grand that it gives one pause the next time they see a hamburger or hot wing.
