U.S. troops in Afghanistan may soon get their burgers back. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Marvin Hill, who took over as the senior non-commissioned officer in Afghanistan this month, told Stars and Stripes on Thursday that he was reversing a ban on fast food concessions such as Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken that had been instituted earlier this year. “For troops to be able to go and grab a burger or a piece of chicken or whatever, I don’t really think it’s that bad,” Hill told Stars and Stripes. The concessions ban had been put in place by Gen. Stanley McChrystal in February as the military was boosting its troop strength in Afghanistan. McChrystal said the concessions took up space on bases and in supply lines. “This is a war zone – not an amusement park,” McChrystal’s senior NCO, Sgt. Maj. Michael Hall, said at the time. it's the least you could do for young men and women who's last meal could be a whopper or the colonel's own. that's what i have always hated about the military. find something nice to break the monotany? take it away. you eat your mre and have mine too. chicken strips with a little barbeque sauce or a whopper jr. with cheese is good training. eh-bone!
I salute you Sir-and thank God Mom and Dad knew how to send a good beer through the mail ! I think it was more my dad though.
For the love of all that is holy, can the libs PLEASE stop trying to protect us from ourselves???
I was in the Marines, and i can tell you firsthand that food and morale go hand in hand. Let the guys eat what they want, as they are DEFINITELY going to burn it off.
Save the tofu and sprouts for those at home.
I got your tofu and sprouts swingin' right here-Ready to eat!
Thanks Head, but I am happily married. Please leave me out of your homosexual fantasies. I hear Jdizz is single though...
Too Bad she didn't meet a real ARMY man before meeting a Jar-Head!
There are no such things as real men in the army...
Haha-Douche my friend.
Truth reminds me of my dad. I would think it was him, but he was Army and has a Hispanic wife. Subtle differences, but exact same rhetoric and responses to teases. Are you my real dad, Truth?
Well, you must know the old joke about why marines and sailors share bases sometimes...
Because sailors eat less than sheep.
Could be Dizz...the ages are in the ballpark...
@Jdizzle-Please don't go to the dark side-Reminds me of Lucy-"You gotta lot of 'esplainin to do"!
I read this article now and think back many years ago-long ago,and wonder who in the hell promoted these boneheads to make such decisions? Morale-whether good or bad wins wars, and food always wins wars! Been there-done that!
Taco Bell and Burger King trips sustained me dusing my year long stint in Korea a few years back. Until I found the country club at the base's "Golf Course" (more like a big crappy park with flags and tee-boxes) made the most awesome egg rolls on the planet. They'd deliver to your dorm, with homemade BBQ sauce and a six pack. Beer is what I missed most in the sandbox.
Didn't have that when I was in-Good old Krap American cheese. Tasted good in the rain though!
SIR-It is called a little taste of home, yet we are many thousands of miles away from there.
Sir, yes, sir!
At ease you dweebs-Here,have an MRE it's got that Government cheese ya'll like!
I'll trade you the plain cheese spread in mine for the Jalapeno flavored one you got.
A little taste of home helps A LOT, trust me on this issue. And for those who are about to cry that "the soldiers will get fat", I assure you they've burned more calories today than you have all week.
